I was worried after reading comments like yours. Have you actually had one though? All the flies mine has zapped have ended up whole in the tray at the bottom. Not exploded everywhere like i feared.

I got one of these from amazon last year and it works surprisingly well! wasn't expecting much for £15 but always a couple of dead bugs when left on my bedside table and no more mozzy bites. Rechargeable means it can come camping (originally bought for a campervan trip around Scotland)

Yeh do the uv lights attract them good enough or is that why everyone seems to have the tennis racket ones?

I bought a full sized one a few years ago. It attracts flys, moths and other bugs, but found it quite poor for attracting the mosquitos which were my intended victims.
The crackle is quite satisfying 😀 Although the smell of burning insect is awfull when it gets something bigger stuck in the wires. The giant moth we caught was nasty.
I've considered baiting the catch tray with food scraps to assist during the day when in competition with the sunlight.
Not all corpses and bits land in the tray so avoid positioning it over a food prep area.

You don't have an Andrew? Not cheap but they go around keeping everything charged around your house

Just don't put it directly over a food prep area.

These cheap toys are the best solution I've found plus they appeal to one's inner child.

I've got one of these. They are fantastic at dispatching flies. And very satisfying if you can take one down in mid air.
Plus you get to act like Jack Bauer round the house.

I have looked at the bug-o-salt for the same reason. Just trying to justify the cost to kill flies. In fact, a holster for the fly gun AND the bug-o-salt...

Another option may be to install a fly screen - going for the prevention is better than cure approach.

We put a fly screen door on the kitchen door, and now almost never get flies/mosquitos inside.

Obviously it's a lot less fun than swinging away with a high voltage tennis racket, or shooting them with a bug-o-salt thing!

Real key is to keep them out in the first place where possible (We live rurally next to a farm... So not always possible!)... Red Top fly traps ftw.

They make a huge difference though - just hang them out of sight. Empty them during the first hard frost to avoid all contact with the putrid soup!

You do don't you? 3 really slow flying ones in a dark room, in a random set of 90>140 degree turns.

Make sure you buy the genuine red top traps, I bought some that look identical but don't seem to attract any flies.

Avoid these!
