If you do a refit use these products, the tray seal is excellent, I’ve just used it on this shower bath.

Which product is that? A quick look at the site suggests the seal should be fitted behind tiling, but that looks like a pre-finished wall surface? Or am I missing something?

That’s the classi seal, the wall has been tanked, it now has tape and tiles on top.
I also gets tape over classi seal before tiling (see pic)
All wet areas should be tile backer boards or tanked, this is a requirement for new builds from next year, about 6 years behind but better late than never.

I had a slightly similar issue in my old house. Had an upstairs extension and a shower room put in. We had a plastic shower tray installed and small tiles round the back of the unit. The bottom row of tiles kept on popping out at the top, where the sealant at the bottom was flexing and slightly levering them forward.

Had it repaired twice by a builder (my uncle) who eventually said, the tray isn't really fitted properly and suggested we pull it out and replace/re-tile.

Once the tray was out, it was clear that underneath they had simply put down plaster to try and support the train, which broke up and also water had leaked down the back of the tiles and onto the floor/joists.

Luckily where we had stopped using it each time, the damage although not pretty hadn't affected the joists. So be braced them and put down new flooring.

We then had a ceramic shower tray installed on feet and it didn't flex, and larger tiles etc. It was fine for the following 4-5 years so you may find it's not as awful as you're thinking.

Good luck OP as it's not a fun thing to have to get sorted.
