Building regulation approval certificate £90.00 standard fee from your local council....
Or less if they use me! biggrin

Be very carefull buying windows and installing them yourself. They need to meet building regulations....safety glazing in critical locations....fire escape openers in certain locations....trickle vents....low thresholds on doors....opening restrictors on certain locations.
Without an approval certificate you will NOT be selling your property!!!!!!!!!
Part B does not apply to replacement windows. Just don't make it any worse. Bizzarre I know.

Trickle vents are easy to do and your window manufacturer should know the locations for safety glazing.

If in doubt, ask you Building Inspector.

.

Even less if they use a fensa registered installer.

How would the manufacturer know the locations for safety glazing without a site survey?
Fire escape openers (egress hinges) certainly do form part of building regs for replacement windows as do trickle vents....best you get reading your books!

yor wrong! the regs for replacement are totally different to new build!you only need to replace with the same opening area regardless of hinge type where as new build you have to allow for escape in habitable rooms

Errr...Parts L and N. Other aspects, are not to be made worse than beforehand.

Also, you tell the window manufacturer where you're having the windows so they can work out whether you need safety glass. Easy.

It's hardly rocket science to know if you need safety glass or not, given the suppliers can advise on this and it's not difficult to find out....

I'm talking from experience here, these are the prices I paid for windows/doors 12 months ago for two properties. Admittedly, one of the doors I managed to get a mis-measure at exactly the right size which saved a bit.

I also had them fitted by a contracted window fitter, and signed off by the Council bod.

Obviously, if you're a window fitter posting on this thread, you will have a different agenda?

'DIY' doesn't necessarily mean doing it yourself, just arranging it yourself. My previous thread explains this in more detail if you read it fully....

Hands up who thinks PCOT is a double glazing fitter? Trying to put somebody off saving a bit of cash? Surely not....

If it was my line of business, I would be doing the same thing so not criticising, just noting all the doom and gloom and horror stories seems to be coming from one person!

Appologies for the fire escape openings...i was wrong, however any responsible installer/sales person would strongly recommend fire escape openings in all first floor windows.
The OP was asking about prices for new replacement windows......NOT mis-measured ones!!!!!!!!!

I've advised LOADS of people who weigh it up for all of two seconds and then say no. There's not a thing I can do about it either.

Just checked again, windowsanddoors.co.uk have a 'sale' on at the moment.

An 800*1000 window (pretty much what I had fitted * 12) comes out at £81.94.

Add £30 for toughened glass (which I had to have on three or four as they were less than 600mm from the floor).

The OP asked for prices, I put what mine cost last year and gave a few tips on how to save some cash. I'm aware he didn't ask for mis-measures as I can read quite proficiently, but it still doesn't come to anywhere near £4500 if you buy specially made doors at full price. I was relating what I did, and how I saved some money on the job.

Unless I am very much mistaken, this is what the forum is all about.

If you've got nothing better to do than complain, I suggest you go and do it elsewhere, as we already get enough of this from the media.

the regs regarding escape only apply to new build not replacement, the regs regarding replacement ask that the new window has the same or more opening area than the old frame
