Not too shabby, with provision for a collection of cars - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/96556859#/
Not sure I like the metal windows/doors though. (£2.25m, with reasonable access to KGX)

Planners and architects like to see a delineation between the old and new. They tend to see blending in as a pastiche.
Personally, I think modern adjuncts to period buildings often look offensive. But I do enjoy being able to read the history of a building, so probably the experts know more than I do.

They like/prefer/require extensions to be modern e.g. glass box stuck on side of a Georgian pile. See lots of them.
So the difference can be clearly demarked or because it's difficult to extend/replicate sympathetically, I don't know.
I think this is the same place in 1905 - without the modern extension - https://www.countrylifeimages.co.uk/Image.aspx?id=...So the difference can be clearly demarked or because it's difficult to extend/replicate sympathetically, I don't know.

I recall that one went pretty smoothly, all considered?
Not really - they didn't want to run a B&B! He's a successful architect iirc. There was also the small matter of a fecking enormous wall collapsing as they removed the rubble from the ground floor. It's also even "worse" than Grade 1 listed - it's a scheduled ancient monument!
One of my very favourite though. Went on the market a couple of years ago (in theory turning a nice profit) but got pulled from sale.
