We're intending to modernise and update it, enhance it (outbuildings, cellars, attics) but not do anything that would lose the character (why we love it)... it has a huge walled garden that we're going to do something with and I'm also building a barn - we have taken extensive advice and got a historic building surveyor with heaps of experience and good relationships locally. Whilst it's a bit scary because it's new territory for us - it doesn't put us off. We're certainly not intending to carry out works without the necessary permissions. smile
We work on listed building all the time, just finished a loft conversion, extension and re-model (inclusing removing partitions and knocking through to new extensions) in one dating back to 1600's, We have also linked listed building together and renovated whole properties all with listings.

If you have any questions fire away! You have done the right thing involving a local conservation specialist.
Thank you that's really kind smile
The general view seems to be you can do most things if you are patient, flexible, creative and work with the LA & conservation officer rather than against them. It is a really special house and we are very excited - we do like a challenging project . smile
Sounds like an ideal candidate for its own post Sir!
Thanks but being judged by the bored housewives of Pistonheads doesn't really appeal rofl

I'm sure that's something to do with Mike Ashley! His or his missus property. Could explain the black and white décor.

That’s been on the thread a few times over the years.

I think it’s had a bit of a makeover in some areas, so it might have sold and come back on the market? Or it’s had a bit of work done to it internally to make it look more appealing (mostly failed obvs).

Clear out the chattel, and it’s ok, some nice paint will change it dramatically. Still lots of money needing spending to appeal to people with some class, but there are plenty of rich people with zero class.

They usually have a lambo that’s been wrapped by that fella on the tele.
You might be thinking of this place - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/100698815#/
Nope, seen the bowling alley and the coloured bowling balls before on here, and it had its own old course.
Must be two years or so since though.

I think I’d need a healthy 7 figure furniture / art budget to do the place justice, but this’ll do me

If single glazed windows concern you, you really wouldn't enjoy living in that property.

Yes. I was going to say.
The difference between single glazed heating bills and double is likely to be one of the ‘lower down the scale’ costs.

That'll be great for watching the steam trains if it's the Settle - Carlisle Railway biggrin
