I collect old books. The oldest I have is a Latin bible printed in 1524.
I also have a copy of Ptolemy's "Geographia" - an atlas of all the major countries and regions along with descriptions - from 1594.
Both are still perfectly readable after nearly 500 years. The same will not be said of today's e-books...
Out of interest - with books of that age do you keep them in a special environment/contolled climate to stop them deteriorating? If one wanted a long term investment the right books have always struck me as a reasonable thing. I have no idea why as I've never really looked into it just a thought I keep coming back to. Any insight? Feel free to pm me if you wish to keep the thread on track.I also have a copy of Ptolemy's "Geographia" - an atlas of all the major countries and regions along with descriptions - from 1594.

Cheers!
I also have this, which is the oldest thing I have bought, and it is still in it's original box & packaging

which from the stamps on the box and the first 'royal appointment' inside can be dated to about 1952
(before the Queens Coronation but after her Father's death). If I could make out the date on the Sorting Office Stamp, I'd know exactly how old it was ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

It's immaculate, and cost me £5 from a house sale in London about 10 years ago![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

Couple of bits of furniture are over 200 years old.
I've got a couple of shotguns which are easily over 100 years old but i still shoot them, lovely sensation to use something so old.
Much the same, except only one of my shotguns is over the 100, the other is just under. Furniture includes a Georgean chesterfield, a monks bench, suff like that.I've got a couple of shotguns which are easily over 100 years old but i still shoot them, lovely sensation to use something so old.
