It gets you quite a lot in Mansfield (no surprises there then):

As long as you don't mind two beds, these are the best I can find within 5 miles:

To get within 0 miles you need to bump it up closer to 600k

Poznan is reasonable smile

A flat in our old building, (Very overpriced considering we payed around 1/3 of that price per m2)

Or something like this after a bot of negotiation,

Well off Poles have questionable taste....

I was looking earlier this year for a bit below that. As it is, we're going to be staying in our place another year and adding ~900 square feet of finished space to the basement.

That adds to the value of our place, so we might get somewhere like these next year:

Very depressing. £500k to live in a bland small 4 bed near Coventry.

So what stops you moving? Huge swathes of the world far nicer than Coventry where your money would go far further.
A question I ask myself, unfortunately close proximity to an elderly relative is required. Don't say take them with you or annex, not quite as simple as that.

Gosh, some lovely property for £500k in other parts of the country from me. Nothing special here, not worth linking to more boring stuff, standard 4 bed detached in Bracknell, much like those in the OP really - nice enough to live in but belong in the property pawn thread they do not.

A 70s 4 bed...

Considering we are in the middle of Scotland it's fairly pricey here at the minute as not much comes up for sale so things get snapped up.

Quite a nice, largish detached property:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Unfortunately it's on the original lane that is now at the back of a 70s housing estate... admittedly not a bad estate by any means, but this house would have been 10x nicer pre-estate.

This. Most flats round here are £300k+. Property prices have gone insane.

Some change to spend on shoes though!
