interesting story. I’m the fourth owner.

First owner had it a year

Second had it 20 years or so, engine shat itself twice and he rebuilt it. Let go third time, he said fuggit and it sat and sat.

Third owner (a mate of mine) bought it like that with grand plans of an m5 v10 and v8 m3 manual box but never got round to it. It then sat for 4 years.

I bought it from him for £5k and am going to put an LS3 in it once I’ve got the body off (what a bd of a job) and the chassis sorted.

Original seized engine (4.2 v8) and box was sold off.

Finally properly watertight today with the flashings on and a drip rail.

Harling (Roughcasting) next, something I’ve never done before but going to give it a go.

Gutters and down pipes delivered too, might manage that at weekend if it stays dry.

When does a shed become too large to be called a shed?

Looking great.

It's so much nicer having a handy bog near/in the garage! Very envious here smile

Don't forget the biohazard slicker for the door smile

Yeah, see the loo was an afterthought so there are sockets in there! I might just blank them off…or I might not if I can’t be arsed.

Bad planning.

Mega build for the budget, great work clap.

Only extras I would have spent would have been more insulation and some cladding on the outside to make it prettier but both can be added if you feel the need.

I bet it’s nice and warm upon that mezzanine either way cool

I do love a build thread, and especially when the end product is so well executed and ticks so many boxes like yiur project. Very envious.

I’m looking at installing a lift in our garage and have the headroom for a four post jobbie, but am tempted by a scissor lift instead. What make is yours please?

Thanks, I’m really pleased with it.

Lifts - interesting topic. I really wanted a 4 poster too, preferably one with lifting beams to cover all bases but they’re physically big - too big in my relatively small shed to be able to drive around it to get things easily on and off or around it. If my shed had been longer I would have gone for it.

Mine is a Dunlop DS3600. They retail around £5k I think, trade price £3600. Excluding vat but including fitting. It’s great.

The cheap ones I’ve seen are awful things, I wouldn’t trust them.

My mate had a Nusbaum lift and he says he’d happily sleep under his - but a full height one is about £10k - too rich for me.

Thank you.

Yes it’s still due to get roughcasting on the blocks which will make it look a bit nicer. It would probably have been cheaper to have steel all the way to the ground (maybe with a course or two or blocks) but it’s helpful having blockwork for fixing things to on the inside and the box profile is easily dented/creased/pierced.

Insulation - yeah it doesn’t have any at the moment. It’s been remarkably cool in there this summer which is nice, the trees seem to help a bit. It’s cement fibre sheets on the roof too. Helps with condensation.

I’ll see what it’s like in winter. The mezz is there to provide storage but also to trap heat from the stove making a warm workspace downstairs. I haven’t sealed the gaps around the edges of the mezzanine where they meet the walls - if it needs it I will and it would be easy to put kingspan in the floor too.

Blocks on the lower part is definitely the way to go for a workshop, much less prone to knocks and damage.

I timber clad the outside of my buildings but they are in direct view of the house so it depends a lot on how it’s all situated as to whether that’s worth the effort. Gratuitous car pics as it’s PH biggrinbiggrin

I have one of these in my workshop https://automotechservices.co.uk/products/7335-flo...

Works very well and not flimsy at all although I have a 2-poster as well which I would tend to use for big stuff like vans etc.

I’d recommend an in-floor every time although it’s a chunk of work to retrofit. Appreciate you have yours now but in case it’s of use to anyone else.

Nice, that looks great.

Yeah my shed is hidden away in the woods, can’t be seen from the house or the road or anyone else’s house - just a farm shed. Function over form, good enough for what I need hehe

Nice e36 too, feels like one of the last of the old-school BMW’s to me, never owned one but driven a few. Lovely.

Makes sense, spend on what you need for where it is yes.

The 36 is nice, a real favourite for me. Old enough to be entirely analogue but new enough to still be good to drive cloud9.
