Hi all,
12 years with our current (awful!) Glow Worm boiler and it needs changing. I've been recommended an Ideal and a Worcester Bosch, I want to go with the latter which is a Greenstar 29 CDi.
We have never had a programmer before, just the 7 day unit on the boiler and TRV's. I fancy a room thermostat with wifi (I think) as I hope it will save us cash and will give me something to mess around with!
What will be compatible with the boiler? Do I need anything extra? (The Bosch one above looks smart!)
Thanks in advance!

Is the Bosch one available in the UK?

I understand you have to adjust the temp from your phone? I own a BlackBerry so would be using the work phone or my iPad so I'm keen to retain some manual control.

You can hit a button on the side to override into "home" mode and it'll do whatever it would normally do in home mode.Is the Bosch one available in the UK?
However I think you need to check that they have a blackberry app (I doubt it) as otherwise you loose the geolocation, which is a major plus)
Can't you just buy an iphone!

Yeah, the over-ride is the only control you have from the box. But if the home temperature is too low, you won't get it hot enough without using the App or web login. Similarly if you want heat on past your sleep time you'll need web access. However I think you need to check that they have a blackberry app (I doubt it) as otherwise you loose the geolocation, which is a major plus)

They should definitely make a home controller like that Bosch thing, I'd have that on my wall.
You could achieve the same with an Android Tablet though, with presence detection disabled so you're not permanently in home mode.

I'm obsessing over the Nest now. Is there any reason why I shouldn't buy one and get it installed with my new boiler in a few weeks?
Only the possibility of a V2 coming out, but I've not even seen that rumoured. Also, you need a power lead at your thermostat location, I need to take my existing one apart to work out if I have a live.

I'll be getting a stand as I don't have one currently, all my walls are solid and I'm not sure of the best location. Can you get them cheaper or with any cash back? £179 everywhere at the moment. Loads on ebay, but not sure how to check you are getting the latest version etc.

You could install the heat link in the old thermostat position and have it power constantly by leaving the heating circuit on on the programmer. Also, you need a power lead at your thermostat location, I need to take my existing one apart to work out if I have a live.
you can also wall mount the NEST and drive it with a 12v DC 700 mA constant current driver

No hot water control on the NEST in the UK though right?
That's my understanding too. You'll need another controller for HW, which you'll have to manually adjust when you go on holiday, etc. I guess American properties don't have hot water tanks (everything is electric, no gas).modeller said:

No, just that the water heating method is often completely separate from the heating/cooling. Lots of forced air heating systems (with the same ducts used for the air con) and then a standalone water heater/hot water storage tank.I'm really confused on which is the best solution for me.
My house is a small end of terrace (2.5 bed), ~90sqm, gas heating.
Can anyone advise on a suitable system to use?
Do these things have to be in entrance hallways to detect movement properly? or near the boiler?
Current boiler has a wireless thermostat.

One of my distributors sent me details on this today.

Looks very interesting, for a small single zone system, going to get more details.
