There's basically nothing about this house that I don't love. Unbelievable for the money.
Perhaps the location would be a drawback...it's in a pretty notoriously boring to access region.

You're right though, if I didn't care about that, I'd love to live there too. If I could guarantee WFH for the rest of my working life I'd be there like a shot.

I think the price in indicative of how long they expect this house to be there - half a million quid with direct beach access in Devon? Can't be many like that that have long term prospects....
Can't imagine it being mortgageable either. Great as a holiday home but surrounded by grocs in the summer and isolated and probably largely inaccessible in the winter.

Just imagine trying to get home late on a stormy night at high tide... no thanks.

Agreed. Some redecoration here and there, but overall, yeah - tremendous value for money.

Cracking location as well.

The A83's a lovely road to drive, one of my very favourites in fact. Bit of a schlep to civilisation, sure...

Plus my favourite distillery on earth is there, Springbank.

As much as I love Devon, and being by the sea, the erosion thing is very real. It's a no from me.
This is what is left of the next village along that coastline:

How old is that village?

and how much erosion occurred over what period of time?
Hallsands. 100 years ago, the sandbanks protecting it were dredged for Plymouth naval yard expansion and a storm combined with high tide washed the village away.
Interesting.

So if the sandbanks hadn't been dredged, the village may well have been ok in the end?
I'm dredging my memories of the primary school trip staying in Slapton, but I believe so, (who knows if still by now though), I think there was a long fight but the villagers eventually got compensation. I also think one old woman lived there for decades after, but could be mistaken...

Looks quiet but I remember weekends in the summer and school holidays years back, far too busy for me with everyone on the SW coast path peering in, trying to relax in the garden with someone yelling "hello" or "afternoon" every 5 minutes thinking they're the only person you have ever seen... god I sound miserable.

Whats the betting the cottages around it are holiday lets? Every Saturday afternoon another family with a car full of screaming kids rocks up, make friend with the family staying next door and decide to have a BBQ and get very pissed and loud while the kids play on the beach until 10pm...

Maybe I'm not best suited to Devon any more LOL

When it's not blocked and your having to convoy along the old military road that is.

Me too. Lovely traditional architecture, nicely proportioned rooms and a handy guest cottage. Well worth the asking price IMO

If I could convince my wife to move to Scotland and my daughter to board at school we'd be there like a shot. What amazing value.
A well executed extension to a handome peroid house, a guest cottage, workshop space, a distillery down the road, a loch over the road and high speed broadband - Perfect.

Agreed, that's a lot of house(s) and land for the money. Would make a lovely extended family place.
