But you still have to rake up the cuttings don't you?

No, the cuttings are so fine because it is cut regularly that they just fall down amongst the grass and compost, you don't even know they're there.

A robot mower combines my laziness with fondness for pointless home automation so I think it’s time to pull the trigger.

My grass area is small (say 20m x 5m) any idea what the current flavour of the month is?

What do you all reckon on life expectancy? I will likely move in a few years with more land being a priority so do I need to futureproof or not worry?

I wouldn't worry, I only see them getting cheaper in future anyway.

Argh!

That doesn’t help my limited attention span to satisfaction ratio.

Amazon have the Flymo 1200 for about 600 and the same for a Worx wr090. I’m not sure if that’s a new model as there is only one review and I see no mention of it in this thread.

We paid £350 for the Flymo on Prime Day in July 2016.

Oh, that certainly puts a new spin on it.

I just checked Camelcamelcamel and it looks like both of the cheapest ones went up very recently... which would sound about right to make a price drop look more favourable.

I will pop a note in my calender - it's July 10th according to the internet of anyone else is interested.

Is the verdict that the Flymo is better than the Worx? even though the Worx claims to cut right to the edge?

My Worx WR106SI has failed. It keeps losing connection to the base station after a short period of time and goes offline. The official Worx Fan Club guys have sent me 3 different firmwares and checked the logs and concluded either the base or the mower is faulty and both need to go back.

Let's see how Worx deal with this now, as the nearest service centre is apparently in Austria!

There is no doubt that the Flymo is the cheaper end of the market. However, it does a good job. Plenty of lessons learned from our installation, so that should help setup.

We were looking at £800 Robomows until the offer came along. No regrets though. I'm even rather fond of the little fella.

Tesco Direct were clearing out stock Tue (they're shutting down) and had the 1200R for 350. Gutted as I missed it.

There's a reason why the Flymo is cheap, plentiful and frequently on 'special' offer at silly money.

It's not just hardware that's important with robotic mowers, software and software development are also vital.

It's clear from my experience of 3g connected mowers that some manufacturers are regularly tweaking the software side as they get feedback from the mower and users.

It's not unusual to see the mower start doing something that it previously couldn't.

In some cases it's mowing a bit of the lawn that it used to just ignore or miss.

Other times it's how it approaches the docking station, or what it does if it doesn't dock first time.

They're catching up with us I tells ya!

Although to be fair my flymo is faultless, I wish I could say the same for the Worx which has been challenging at times.

My Bosch seems to have settled down now. Its stopped having daily wobbles. Only thing that annoys me is when it asks to be cleaned. Im not sure if it would stop working if I didnt clean it, such as away on holiday.

Errr, we have the Mcculloch version of the Flymo, it doesn't have any of the problems that your 3G enabled mower needs fixing!

It mows the whole garden, doesn't ignore or miss anything and can even get through a pergola into another part that a salesman for a very expensive mower said was impossible. It has never not docked first time and varies its egress and return randomly to eliminate wear patterns.

We've had it a year now and I can't believe how good it is.

Completely agree, the Flymo has been faultless.

My Bosch connect 400 updated its firmware yesterday - seems to have ironed out the issues I had before.
I wish they would get rid of the security code though. Its highly annoying having to punch it in on the unit when I turn the mower over for exampe to clean it. Its in my back garden and the place is secure - I DONT need a code on it!

Likewise.

Docking failures - 0
Software updates - 0
Missed bits of lawn - 0
Random failures - 0
Years of faultless service - 2

Pretty happy with my cheap stty robot.

I did ask this before but what do others do about the edge, I havent used a strimmer in years but remember the last one I had scalped the grass. I dont really want to buy another mower just for the edge.
