New restoration project - what have I done!
Discussion
So, bit more of an update on the other parts of the house as well.
Firstly, I posted some pictures of the fuse board being dismantled, ive now managed to clear the room ready for the refurbishment to start in that area. Still got to remove the two supporting steel beams that were under the fuse board, but I need a hand to move those!
Also managed to get the floor tiled in the utilty room, ready for the worktops to be fitted tomorrow. Going for laminate here to keep costs down, plus its only a Utilty room! Worktops will be in a 'U' shape to include the back wall, as the washing machine and T/Dryer will go underneath.
Got a good bargain from Howdens for the units, £399+VAT for a set range, only didnt use the oven housing and extractor door, had some nice steel handles in stock at work, so came out pretty well for a bargain!
Did some more work in the first floor WC, made the oak worktop out of an offcut of 30mm top from the TV room worktop, 4 coats of varnish later, and the sink and tap are roughed in ready for connecting up. The unit underneath will just be for toilet rolls etc, and has a solid oak drop down door. Skirtings still to do here, but I need to get the toilet in first before I can get them finished.
Next job was to push on the 2nd floor guest bathroom, which had already been first fixed, and had the window repaired and refitted. This was the worst room hit from the rot damage, so its good to see it looking like a room again.
Next job in here is to start final fixing, walnut units going in for the WC and wall mounted basin unit inline with the vertical band of feature tiles, radiator to fit, screen, shower valve, bath panel......
Last job progressed was to start to get the hearth done ready for the convection multi fuel stove, this is starting to get needed now as averaging 9deg now! I had already built the base, just needed to tile it and then set the stove on it in place. Looks small, but it is actually an 11kw stove!
Just need to organise the fitters for the flue and the slaters back again.

Been working on the hallway again. Finished all the woodwork, second fixed the radiators and managed to get the feature wall paper on as well! Just ready for the flooring, nice light fittings, thermostats and the rads to go back on then might be classed as a finished room!
A couple of before shots too, showing the state the local council left the place in when they moved out! Pretty disgraceful to be honest.

Seriously impressive progress! Top work!
The outside is beginning to look more "stately home" than "disused school". The doors and railings look great.
Cheers marky, The outside is beginning to look more "stately home" than "disused school". The doors and railings look great.
That was always our main aim, it was built as a big house, and we always wanted to recreate that look. The big front door and restored railings go along way to doing that. To be fair, we are going to keep some of the quirky school features, like the old school bell on the outside! Don't know why, but just a bit if fun. Also debating keeping the outside toilets as well, having a 10 person ceramic urinal outside near the bbq area might come in handy next year when the lads are all round for a beer or three!
Ok, so I was working down on the ground floor today, ripping up the old carpet and prepping for tiling, focus is to get the stair tower finished.. Anyway, I found a panel in the downstairs cupboard, which when removed revealed another room... The small space under the bottom of the stairs, just about big enough to walk in. Thing is, it had been sealed shut for ages, yet, contained only a rubber hose.... Is this where the really naughty children went? Did the teachers have a little dungeon? Why the rubber hose?
Any ideas?
And the big question,....... Do I need a mate called Dave with a stick and a torch?
A few pictures of the hidden room..

What be the water pipe? Could the hose be related to that in anyway. Weird to have been shut up though.
Doesn't make sense TBH, the incoming water main us in another room, the hose isn't connected to anything, just left in a pile on the floor. Not even a bleed or drain point in there, and the hose is a bigger diameter than usual as well.... Must have just been dumped and forgotten about.
