The definitive low-energy GU10 lighting thread

Here's the coving "halo" with the down-lights off
As you can see, it shows up the finish of the plastering very well
Just about enough light to light the room on its own too, and on the dimmer can give a very nice background lighting while watching the TV. Gets lots of comments, very pleased I made the effort

I got a LED GU10 from Lidl the other day to see how it compared to the 50w Phillips halogens in my kitchen, and found I can't tell the difference between the two!
Unfortunately they had sold out when I returned to buy more!
Alas, I am now converted and want to replace the rest of them with LEDs - the lidl ones were livarno lux 5w warm white (I think!)
Any recommendations as to what to get? The above were 2 for a fiver and that's the sort of price I'm after tbh,

Picked up a set of the Toolstation dimmable LED bulbs last night to see how they perform - in a non-scientific, I require light in my room test.
Currently, I have been very pleased with the IKEA GU10s. Dimmable, nice warm white colour - not too yellow, good supply, diffuse, not that much bigger than a halogen bulb, decent price and good output. Not available in cool white though. Doesn't dim very low.
These are what I got last night http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Lighting/d220/LED+...
About the same size as a halogen GU10. Nice warm white colour very similar to the IKEA. Available in cool white. Diffuser fitted. Dims lower than the IKEA. More outlets than IKEA. Just under £4 each. Tigher beam pattern than the IKEA. Will have to see about their longevity. The vast majority of the early SMD ones I fitted 6-odd years ago are still going fine so I am restricted to refurb work and the odd failure. Overall, good so far.
Toolstation bulbs are available in non-dimmable version too http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Lighting/d220/LED+...

Pity Samsung gave up, I played with a few of their GU10s and some of the higher outputs were very nice.
Currently pricing replacing the remainder of the mix'n'match LED GU10's with some full fitments from TLC (c800lm) c £27+VAT.
They are 240v and fit the current holes. I'd guess cheaper are available, but since I can just retro in about 5 mins per light not bad. Also dimmable is useful for the future

Just bought some 7w LED dimmable GU10 replacements from Well-lit. I am big fan of the difference in light compared to the cheaper LED ones I had before .. apparently its all down to the high CRI rating and for me its was a much more "natural" light.
They were much more than the diy sheds sell but they have a 20% off offer at moment and also will offer refund if you dont like them.
No affiliation to the company just a satisfied customer.

Anyone have any experience with these. None brand name with no reviews = gamble
At £1.99 ea they are going to be toilet but at least they are cheap enough to replace when they inevitably fail. They are visibly better than the LAP 250Lu that cost £5 and the Screwfix 350Lu that cost £8 and I was happy with them.
