It's like Piccadilly Circus up and down the Exumas, so no thanks.

This is how to do it:

Build what you want - but make it hurricane proof down there. Ask me how I know frown
Oh go on, how do you know?
He was called Matthew and he was coming through. Makes a helluva mess of those out islands - and they are getting more frequent, even in the 20+ years i've been fishing them.

The Rough, Devon Road, Salcombe is coming along. Contrary to what I suggested earlier, they didn't excavate the whole plot to the level of the road. They've gone up in stages.

This isn't the house. This is the base. The house is going back almost to the gazebo on a funny strip of land that belongs to next door. It joined next door's drive and there was a dispute between them and the old lady who lived in the original house. She said she had vehicle access and her neighbours said she didn't. When she died her sons sold the house at auction and the neighbour bought it, extracted the contested strip of land and sold the remaining plot to the current owner. IIRC he bought It for £625,000 and sold it, in slightly smaller form, for £650,000. He was a property developer.

The new owner, therefore, had no hope of vehicle access from above and had to do some excavation to enable off-road parking. It was the extent of the excavation that was the big surprise. Although not as first thought the entire site excavated to road level, there has been excavation across virtually the whole plot.

The ground floor has the garage and entrance. The rooms above will support a terrace. The next floor is set back and also has a terrace. Above that, set back again, will be a large fairly conventional house.

It will be the most expensive terraced house in Salcombe.

I was in Salcombe this morning. There’s an end of terrace place for sale on Victoria Quay. My missus guessed £850k, it’s on for £1.5m! Good job she isn’t an estate agent.

Lovely village but seriously strong money.

£40K per week!

Granted it's an incredibly high spec place in a very desireable area. But do you still get noise transmission like every other flat in the country? Or are these soundproofed to a mental level so you can hear a mouse fart?

It’s all concrete. There won’t be any sound issues.

How about a bit of Art Deco in the Hampshire countryside? It needs some money throwing at it and some flowery things removed, but it could be pleasant little spot for a Pimm's or two.

Sucker for those. Terrible to live in, I'm sure, but that could be stunning with as you say, barrowloads of cash.

Would love that or on a lesser scale this one near my parents: https://penarthnews.wordpress.com/2019/04/03/10000...

However, the latter one is where Cardiff City players set up home....

Me too. It’ll be a money pit - many were poorly constructed, the flat roof will need regular attention and the decor is dreadful, but with imagination and lots of cash it could be wonderful smile

Honestly, that leaves me cold. It's a flat all said.

"I've bought an Art Deco house and filled it with chintz. You'll love it."

"I won't."

That should be developed, not flattened. Maintain the originality.

Structural issues apparently.

Read the comments at the bottom from previous and current owner.

The NIMBYs are out in force in the comments!

It's clearly got structural issues. The new owners design is VERY similar to the old one. Yet people are moaning.

This is why we end up with boring property in this country!

Ah OK, in that respect then it's good IMO to replace with much the same.

That is lovely. Brings to mind the setting for an Agatha Christie dramatisation.
