You'll get far more use out of a pool than a hot tub. Neighbour has had a bloody massive hot tub for 3 years. Not seen it used for 2 years...
Our children use our Homebase Basildon Edition hot tub daily. Electricity bills are ominous but it keeps them occupied. Maybe the novelty will wear off.

Thank you very much!

We are going to cur the trees back but they are not bad and the pool has an electric slatted cover, so that will help a lot.

Julian, we have a slatted cover...you might want to consider an additional tarp like cover for certain times of the year to go over the slats as leaves and dust tend to stick....anyway a future problem...

I'm going to try a garden vac for the first winter as we will keep it open all year for the first year and see how it goes. If it ends up not being used (as a giant hot tub basically!) during winter I'll look at closing it and putting a larger taup cover over for winter. Thanks for the suggestion.

They started again at 7:30 this morning with two lorries here to take away the rest of the soil from yesterday afternoon.

Hoping to finish the excavation today and the pool will be here in a couple of hours!

If it's going to cost circa £100k, what value (if any) do you think it will add to your house?

That looks great Julian, thanks for the regular updates.

We are going through a building project of our own at the moment (extension, bigger garage etc) and it's great to see the progress the guys can make in a day.

Why do people feel compelled to comment on the cost? It's rather impertinent, and certainly none of our business how he spends his money.

He wants a pool. He's said why it's important to him. Now he's providing real-time entertainment for those who are interested - if you're not interested, don't watch.

I haven't really considered what it would add in terms of value to the house as I have no intention to sell at any point in the future, but it is a very big Victorian property set in nearly 2 acres (including paddock) so I think it is more likely add than detract.

It is all about the value it adds to my daughter's happiness and physical well being by having her own swimming pool.

It's the PH way. People don't seem to appreciate that some people do things because they need/want to. I'n sure the OP has not even thought about adding value to the house, it's for his daughters' well being.

After saying that, the OP did mention in his opening post that the pool was obtained "at stupid expense" so that has obviously attracted questions.

I was lucky enough to spend many summers around my late Grandads pool with most of the family, they are a great social gathering excuse, many hot afternoons and warm evenings were spent by the pool. It was outdoors and wasn't heated but you soon got used to the temp once your in.

He decided to dig his one hot September afternoon in the mid 1970's he started digging along with my Dad and uncle and a few friends, all by hand, they completed it in December! He filled it in in 1995 when he was diagnosed with Cancer so he didn't have to leave my Gran with the hassle.

I have some great memories and the pool really kept our family and friends close. If you can afford it and are aware of the maintenance, which it seems you are, why not, I'd certainly love one!

Thank you. To be honest I do not feel hugely comfortable talking about the cost, but I understand some people are interested to know if considering doing something similar themselves.

When the project is finished if anyone would like a breakdown of the details feel free to PM me.

I'm not sure if i've missed the explanation but why put yourself under the pressure/extra expense of having such a tight timescale?

Needs it done in time for his daughter to enjoy it before she goes back school.

Good man, well said. Money well spent, and I speak from experience with a pool once had in the family. Several years on - we still very much reminisce and remember it fondly. We used it throughout the summer, often during the Christmas period and loved every minute of it.

Loving all the pictures, please keep it up!
