Interesting Klimpt tiling decor. It's kinda right for the application. Like it. As a bulding surveyor of 26 years standing I can appreciate the massive project that this has been/is. Big respect fella. 2015 will see it as a home. Your updates can then stop (until you post pics of the PH opening party. BTW, my invite hasnt arrived yet, perhaps the post is a bit slow down this way. wink
Cheers john, thanks for the proffesional comments. It's been a labour of love, but the end is nigh!

Planning a house warming party for around end of March, as it's my wife's birthday on the 31st, so thought its as good a date as any. Booked the carpets last week, for fitting end of few, so gives me 6 weeks to get everything done ready. Bathrooms almost finished, so will post some pictures shortly, when it's done. The rest of the work is smaller stuff, like painting all the doors, fitting handles, snagging all the little remedial a in each room, things like that, things that take ages, and then don't really look like I've done anything!

Being based in a suburban area of the English South Coast, it is inconceivable to imagine that houses of this size actually exist!

What an incredible place, looks like it may require some clever interior design to make use of the very large rooms. Though it seems you certainly know what you are doing.

Looking forward to the future updates and thanks for sharing.
Your right, mate. It can be as hard to design a layout of a big room as a tiny room, it's easy to get everything round the perimeter and a bog area on nothing in the middle. I've got some plans in place for the layouts, and some big furniture on order and already in my other house.

Tbh it's a pretty big house even for where I am, amazing really to think it hasn't already been turned into flats in the past (which to be fair we did consider at one stage)

Had my daughters friends over last weekend (she's 11) had to issue them Walkie talkies as they kept losing there friends, one even got lost! They thought it was great fun..

Yeah, tricky. Will be interesting to see what you do with getting it filled nicely. Are you coming from a similarly large place or is this a lot bigger?

Oh yes no doubt, it's a monster - even more so in terms of air volume given those huge ceilings! So what does the total sqft come to now with the attic being converted and outdoor rooms, any ideas?

Hahaha I can only image... we currently live in a large 4 bed house, approx 4500sqft over 3 floors, I am upstairs in my home office, my girlfriend in the kitchen on the ground floor and my kid in the playroom in the basement... the amount of anger we experience daily from trying to scream to each other "dinner's ready"....! I genuinely think you will have to get an intercom system in place to manage!

TBH im not sure of the total area including outbuildings, as ive not measured all the of them, theres 4 in total, a boiler room, 2 x store rooms and the outside wc building (this alone has 8 toilets in it and the big cermaic urinal and is about 40m2 ish.) i know from the architects blurb that the main house is approx 9600sq ft.

Fantastic, definitely going to need to attach GPS to your kid to know where she is!

OP - (you will hate me if the answer is no to this) - have you installed any kind of intercom system ?

Given the size of the house and outbuildings i guess it would no longer be suitable to shout 'Dinnnnnnnerrrrrrr' up the stairs and expect the clan to be in the kitchen within 30 seconds..?

Amazing thread, cant believe that I've not seen it in this sub forum before. Just spent a few hours reading from the beginning, and I have to doff my cap to you, amazing commitment and dedication to get through to where you are, let alone the skills you have in restoring and repairing the original features - the windows, and the staircase especially are noteworthy here

I think it'll be one of those threads which turns out to be an elaborate hoax trolling exercise. He'll be like 'haha got you all, can't believe you fell for that'. He's just busy knocking the next set of progress photos up in Photoshop.
Then he'll be chased out of Scotland by the generated PH rage that would ensue.

Or he's just busy balancing the running of his buisness, family life and the epic restoration project.

It's just the case of which sounds more likely.

Lol, Nail...Head!

But, IM BACK!

Been madly busy at work just now, but I've been nagged left right and centre to update this thread! Both from you lot, my wife and a certain person called Helen..... You know who you are!

I'm uploading a load of pictures now, so hopefully will be able to update things later tonight. The good news is the work on the man cave is coming on nicely, pictures soon!

Right first things first, the man cave!

As you all know by now the man cave is pretty big, which is great, BUT. it's a total nightmare to get materials up to, as to get to it you have to walk up 4 floors of curved staircases from the car park outside, takes approx 5 mins per trip (to start with!) and as I'm built more for power, rather than speed, (yep, I tick all the boxes, powerfully built, company director and even the goatee!) I needed some help here! The second downside of the size of the room is that it needs a lot of materials taken up to it!

Se recent delivery of 125 lengths of 2x1 branders, 75 sheets duplex plasterboard, another 25 sheets of chipboard flooring, 15 sheets of xtratherm, around 230m2 of insulation, plus screws, framing, nails..... It took 2 days and something in the region of 200 seperate trips from outside up to the loft!

So, we had to get this lot upstairs..

The next job was to know down 2 internal lath and plaster walls and open up the bar area and wc. I'm going for an open plan bar approx 3m x 3m with seating for about 4-5 bar stools. It'll have a dishwasher, beer fridge, sink and I'm in the process of designing some led backlit glass shelving system for the drinks etc, should be pretty good when done.

Here's the walls to be coming down etc

First wall down

Second section of wall down

A few more pics.. Note the mahoosive amount of materials!

Had a big clear out of the workshop downstairs, starting to come to the end of the door refurbishment production line, as made sense to have a clear out and tidy up, also I wanted more space for the workshop, as I'm hoping to add a few more tools soon. I've got a central dust extraction system waiting to be brought in and my bandsaw from the work workshop etc, so space was needed. Also used an old scaffolding tower as a perfect rack for sorting all the wood, trims and beads etc into some sort of order.
