Have you found anything exciting in the hole....?
Was going to ask the same... I'd have thought that if nothing else there would be a few sizeable tree roots.Nothing at all!
This was the only root issue too, which greatly surprised me given the size of the tree it came from!

What was the pipe for? Still in use?
How deep will the pool be?
As for the filling, I have a glorified paddling pool at nearly 5,000 litres. Took around 6 hours to fill from the hose.
I don't think that pipe has been in use for a very long time. In any event it will end up covered again. How deep will the pool be?

The actual water depth will be 142cm (4' 8"). My daughter is 150cm (4' 11") so on tip toes and with her head back a bit she can stand up anywhere to breathe and within 12 months she should be able to stand up normally to breathe.
There is also a side grab rail and a strict rule that she can only go in with at least one adult supervising. She also will not have the key to retract the hard cover anyway!

Just saw this and thought of you, must be a similar size to yours, done quite well I thought

Cheers! Yes it does look about the same size and they have done it well. My water will be a deeper blue than this one (which is neither a good or bad thing).http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Hi, thoroughly enjoying this, an excellent read.
You may well have this sorted already but from my experience it's worth installing a good size oil tank, especially if you're heating over winter - you'll be on first name terms with the delivery guy! Mine is 2,500 litres but I believe you can go to 3,500 (I'm sure there's restrictive regulations).
I don't know your flue arrangement but I would suggest avoiding one that allows in rainwater - not good for boiler life expectancy!
With your proposed depth of 142cm I'm guessing you're around 60-65,000 litres so time to fill is probably 2.5 days dependent on your water pressure. I timed filling a 10 litre bucket and multiplied it up for a decent guide.
Thanks for the tip. Crikey, that seems quite deep. I assume that's for the full length? When the cover is in the pit I will see how much I can shave off the water height, increasing it as she grows. Me or my wife will always be in the pool with her (obviously the depth is no issue for us) and she is very confident in the water (but needs to spend a lot more time swimming!).

Awesome Project - Thanks for sharing!
Does she (your daughter) know about the pool yet or is it a surprise?
Who gets first dip - Will you be inviting the build team over for a BBQ / beers and a dip - looks like they deserve it to me (apart from the guy sitting on the steps in the above pics!!)
She knows about it. I had to weigh up whether the surprise on the day or the excitement of knowing it was coming would be the better option. I remember as a kid the anticipation of something was always incredible so I went for telling her!Does she (your daughter) know about the pool yet or is it a surprise?

Also, she loved her tree house/swings/slide and I wasn't sure if it would survive being moved (it has/had concrete foundations) so that was the final tipping point.
Edited to add - My daughter gets first swim but I will certainly invite the guys over for a BBQ and swim!

Good plan - she's a lucky wee girl! Hope you both have lots of fun and make many memories in it!!Also, she loved her tree houseswings/slide and I wasn't sure if it would survive being moved (it has/had concrete foundations) so that was the final tipping point.

Is that just one layer of steels? My garage raft is being poured tomorrow, and it's got two layers of steel.
It's 250mm deep and being poured onto bedrock - I would have thought the pool would need more strengthening, but those guys do seem to know what's what.
One lay of steel (none was required in the specifications) and 500mm of concrete. Congratulations on your two layers of steel! It's 250mm deep and being poured onto bedrock - I would have thought the pool would need more strengthening, but those guys do seem to know what's what.

Julian that's great progress. That pool looks the absolute nuts.
A couple of things I noticed. Can I presume that the garden wall is a very large and deep retaining wall, due to the roof height of the house next door.
That concrete does look thin, with tiny reinforcing. But on the other hand the pool looks excellent quality as does the workforce.
Enjoy the pool, they are great fun and as others have said they can create great memories.
You may remember I put up a picture of my small self built pool on your other thread.
Good luck with the finishing off.
The base concrete level is more then than the pool manufacturer stipulates and the steel reinforcement is something they say is not necessary, but we have added anyway. We have 30cm of compacted hardcore and 5cm of steel reinforced concrete, all over a solid bedding.A couple of things I noticed. Obviously my mistake was saying 500cm when I meant 500 mm (not cm).
So we still end up with hardcore, long length and a well prepared hole...
