Was this the one OP?

How do we know this wasn't posted up by a friendly caravan dweller to fool us into scrawling a circle with an X through it on our drives?
I don't know if you can get the internet in a caravan, therefore it must be true.
hehe

Haven't you heard of mobile internet? Usually available in mobile homes.
Also, if this was done by our travelling friends, wouldn't the background be Tarmac and not brick?

Or is it a double bluff.................
Maybe during the robbery, they'll offer to tarmac his drive for £50?

Why the Hell would a burglar inform a competitor that there's goods to be stolen? He'd take it himself! It doesn't make any more sense than astrology does.
Probably not for competitor - ringleader "scouts" an area identifying scores/risks before sending grunts to carry out the risky stuff.

while the fuzz direct their energys on such important crimes as divers going a little fast or sending hundreds of officers to festivals to grab a bit of weed off some kids, a lot of actual real scumbags carrying out robberies, muggings have got (relatively) sophisticated in their setups.

EDIT: sorry to repeat, just saw the point already made

Ps in this modern age of CCTV and other such technology, why wouldn't said spotter take a picture with one of those new fangled camera phones and mail it along with the address to Mr Big?
rolleyes
and been seen pointing cameraphone acting suspiciously? And the grunt need s a smartphone and walks along trying to identify the place? no, just chalk fixed to shoe perhaps and a flick of a foot the jobs done.

Spotter will be the only smart one. grunts will be disposable- may not even speak english, be here legally etc. Maybe trafficked and indebted. keep it simple for them.

Surely it would be easier to give the address to the grunts, rather than them having to walk along the road looking for markings, which in turn would look very suspicious?

Years ago I had a home security review from an alarm company and the sales guy, who was there to scare the st outof you so you would buy an alarm, mentioned about tthiefs marking houses.

We did not buy an alarm but noticed an X scribed into our door the next day.

I think I know how did it and who was hoping for us to change our minds on the alarm.

Maybe not an important crime, but still potentially really nasty when it comes to the bends....

It's far easier to take a subtle picture or not even bother, just note car and address than it is to walk up someone's drive and cleverly draw a picture with a piece of chalk ingeniously attached to ones shoe.
As to identifying addresss, ever hear of a GPS!? Most phone have them these days.

Also these itinerant illiterate foreign individuals, how come the know what cars or houses are worth breaking in to but can't use a smart phone ?

Maybe it was aliens?
I'm quite sure you could argue that a squad of high-tech robbers using carbon fiber augmented reality goggles and encrypted headsets linked back to a cia-black-ops-esque mission HQ full of people looking at satellite feeds overseen by a white-haired admiral gone bad would have it's advantages.

My point was to illustrate where robbers using chalk markings would make sense. there a good reasons why smartphones preloaded with robbery data might not be advantageous, which I though might be obvious, such as if picked up by the fuzz you could be charged with going equipped, linked to other robberies, and linked to other individuals.

Maybe a quick call to your local force or ask next door if the kids have been playing with chalk.

But i have heard of the local travellers in Kent who will mark houses like this if theres Dogs or horses worth taking
Why mark the house? Just remember where it is.

This is obviously a wind up but not from the OP.I can imagine his wife saying to the kids lets draw a picture of a fish by daddies car, then it will take over his life for the next few days with him googling and talking to his forum friends and we will be able to watch what we want to television for the next few days ha ha - hook, line and sinker.

The drawing of a penis on the road in my opinion is genuine and a mystery that may never be explained.

Well, no real update I'm afraid, cars still there and the house is fine.

Just in case it was a genuine sign I left my own offering to assist.
