Another day and another person forgets how to drive on the section between Fareham and Portsmouth:

The 4-lane road design has not helped matters. People end up flying up the outside towards the pinch point at the top of the hill where you have a horrible combination of 4 lanes merging to three, traffic backing up, low sun appearing over the brow of the hill, and the usual British moron mentality of "I'm not letting anyone push in".

I guess lane 4 merges so you don't get all the HGV in the climbing lane trying to merge into the faster traffic. They should just 50mph the whole section as it always flows better when there are roadworks with lower limits in place.

If the OP wants to get an idea of the traffic, have a look here at peak times.

You don't live around the corner from me near Haslar do you pal? There's an RCZ the same colour as yours there.
I work in Haslar, live in Gomer.
Gosport is a lot more bearable if you don't try to get out/in during rush hour

Having lived around various areas of Portsmouth all my life, I've just moved from between Gosport and Fareham to horndean near waterlooville.
I work in eastliegh and my commute has cut almost in half, purely because of how bad Fareham traffic is.

Not bad considering I've doubled the commuting mileage !

And horndean is a much much much nicer area, if more pricey

Do you go cross country via Bishops Waltham rather than along the M27 then?
