I sit corrected
It was referencing Fiat's "built by robot", which BL clearly couldn't afford to do!

I would like to fill the raised beds at the allotment so I can get on with planting out... dig for victory and all that. Technically it’s a grey area, can keep the social separation distance... hmm.

I've just bought a pole saw and new loppers last week so been trying to keep on top of the neighbours' horrendously overgrown privet. Every year is a total nightmare as it's already so high and grows so quickly.

It's to the right in this shot

Every year is a battle at the top of a 6ft stepladder just to keep our half in check. It never looks good either as you can see from this pic:

However, the neighbouring property's been empty 2years and having recently spoken to the family of the couple that lived there they're happy for us to do whatever we like. Neighbour the other side had already been out hacking stuff down on their side.

Really it needs a contractor in to tackle it properly but that's off the cards now for a while! Ideally I'd like to see the privet gone, the laurel and Holly brought back under control to then allow the Rowan and copper beech to flourish. There's also a glorious climbing rose in the beech that we've been able to enjoy sonce hacking 4ft off the top of the hedge at the house end.

For some context this terrible photo is from 7yrs ago before most of the work we've done. Only thing missing in this shot was a massive rhododendron in the cleared area to the right, which completely hid the shed

The allotments in my village are open as I went by yesterday and two or three were on their plots. Whether it's a local council thing I don't know but it surprised me a little.

I refelted my shed roof. Barely had enough as it's one of those Dutch barn style things and they seem to take a lot of covering.

I chopped and split yet more logs - I'm getting a fairly vast supply now so that I should now have enough for this year and next.

Cut my grass, I need to scarify it too - got an electric scarifier. I tend to leave the hopper off as it fills up in seconds, so leave the grass a couple of inches deep in moss and then hoover it up with a big mower.

I built another log store but ran out of slats to clad it but I put it in place anyway and started chopping logs. I hope I can get more slats delivered so I can finish this job!

This is what happens when you split your topsoil order across two deliveries so you can move it around easier - and then Covid stikes...

I'm updating last years garden project thread;

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Work had ground to a half around November and was due to start up around now anyways, Covid-19 has meant an early start to proceedings!

Yeah they’ve not closed because 1) it’s a source of food 2) a source of exercise 3) generally speaking they’re pretty isolated... in probably further away from people there than in my house!

More the logistics of getting three bulk bags of compost delivered and whether that gets me in trouble!

I'd scrape it around ALL that patch...then get the next load dumped in the middle, ready to just spread out....

What you can't see clearly from the photo is that it's all roughly level now - the left side needed up to 150mm of soil, the right far less

And it's raining smile

Scaling it to the car on the left it looks a lot bigger area than the photo seems to show.

Picture overload, sorry! I have spent the past week finally getting to grips with our new kitchen garden area. Historically a dumping ground, I first started work on this at least a year ago but the sheer amount of removing etc was a little overwhelming so ''I'll do it next month'' - with bugger all else to do I decided it's now or never...

State of play now...(run out of sleepers!). Will be re seeding the lawn in a week or so having levelled it out. Should be a nice area when finished, probably the sunniest part of the garden - certainly late afternoon/early eve.

Good effort, and I like the Landie!

Those sleepers look good, do they need any wood treatment to preserve them?
Cheers smile They are pressure treated so will hopefully last a good few years. After building around the driveway with railway sleepers, I didn't fancy having to cut more wink Only £20 a pop so not too bad if any need replacing in future.

From memory the box hedge is about 9mtrs long and the grass area is also about 9mtrs "front to back" at the max point. But as I said, it's raining so I'm not checking wink

It takes my north of 100kg standing on the edge so should be fine for 120 litres of water.
120 litres of water is 120kg.
Yes but the butt sits close to the shed edge, a good 6 inches front the outside edge where I stood.

The mental trigonometry works or should that be bending moments?

And North of for me is about 110kg paperbag

I can't be bothered going outside today, it's not sunny enough.
Me too, cut the grass for the second time this year. Put some grass seed down to fill in the dog damage last week but it hasn't germinated I assume the frost may have killed any chance of it growing?

Only real job left to do on mine is the block paving at the front but it's a pain with 3 cars to move in an already congested estate when most people are at home.

And as it's summertime I wear shorts, and it's freezing outside laugh

Some great work, the kitchen garden area from previous page looks great.

The burn that runs through my garden got blocked where it exits the field further up a few years ago - I had to wade in chest height water to remove feed bags and tubs of animal food. When it overflowed it ran down the walls of the 4 houses upstream, and stopped at ours, where it then brought the wall down - about a 3m section.

I watched some YouTube vids and spent a few hours rebuilding it yesterday. Tough going.

The end result is solid and looks passable for a first attempt (you can’t see it from the house). Will look better once the moss grows back.
