I just said to my wife I need to check where our handle is on the wheelie bin, she just said 'No problem' and carried on watching TV

My handle and my hinge are on opposite sides. I also noticed I have a 98db sign on it.

Can you all please check your db levels, I think it's important.
Another wheelie bin thread of mine here re. decibels. Wheelie bin db ratings. I’m wondering now if I have a problem. Also my bin is quieter than yours>sniff<

I hate wheelie bins with a passion, or more accurately, I hate having to look at them them. Accordingly, our bins are kept in lidded wooden bin stores in the back garden.

Wheelie bins are one of my unreasonable annoyances.

As seen here, they look st on a street of terraced houses where there's no alley way or other access to the rear for a bin lorry. Communal bins as used in more enlightened districts of the UK and elsewhere in yoorp are a less ugly solution where housing is this densely packed.

Absolutely nothing, they're a wonderful example of urban expressionism. Who wouldn't love that lineup? Poetry in motion once on the move. smile

If this were a poll, mine would be "handle against the wall", but it's in a corner at 45 degrees, as that tucks in neatly with my outside taps and car washing hose reel behind it.

My recycling service is great (everything in one, very few restrictions), so I don't generate much straight "rubbish", and am running about a 3:1 ratio on putting recycling out vs putting rubbish out for collection.

Green waste bin is also handle against the wall (well, fence) in a different location, though coming up on my fortnightly collection, so right now it's "handle against the manky Landie" as I've just filled it up.

Wheelie bins then, if you keep yours against a wall or fence, which way round do you put it? Handle against the wall or t’other way round? I’m in the former camp so I can lean the lid against wall rather than fold it back on itself. Granted it is slightly harder to pull out away from the wall if it’s really heavy but my powerfully built PH frame copes. What camp are you in?
I think that you need to get out more.

There is much bigger stuff going on in the world right now.

Mine's the one in the middle.
I feel like rescuing Hoofy’s bin and setting it free in my local park. His bin will never receive the Red Tractor stamp. Poor thing.

Same.

When I put them out I leave them handle towards the road for easy access for the bin men. I assumed this was 'correct' but noticed that most other people in the road leave them handles in.
You’re doing it right, I reckon.
Anyone who doesn't should have their bin missed in my opinion, it's plain ignorant. Especially with garden bins that are often heavy. I leave mine in the nearest place to my driveway dropped kerb with handles out to make it as easy as possible.

Handle out so you can easily roll away when full.
Especially important for the garden waste bins.

Get out! Your set up, you’d have to grab the lid and take a step back to get out of it’s way and also have the filthy, underside of the lid exposed, all the better to get crap over your clothes.
You move the bin once a fortnight, you open it every day. So I'd say that's the wrong way round.

I'd have ours handle to fence by choice but had no option as to which way round if I expected to be able to open the bin store doors. The lids are chained to the bin lids so that both open in one fluid motion. The one at the far right is shelved and has the glass tub on top for easy access.

Handles are now furthest away and about 6 ft in the drive for the facking bin boys. This is ever since they put a sticker saying "overloaded & overweight" and didn't empty it. Lazy people clearly didn't try to move it, the lid was sticking up by about 6" due to a load of polystyrene. They used to always get a tenner at Christmas, that stopped. grumpygrumpygrumpy

Ours refuse to take polystryrene, so it now goes in the bottom of the bin where they cannot see it!

It’s the cardboard recycling that’s the problem.

I have to put a bag of sand on mine to stop the Foxes rifling through & spreading it all across the road.

Costs me a fortune but they now leave me alone.
