interest rates above 10% within 5yrs anyone? likely???? i hope not!
Well, absolutely nobody predicted even just 1 year ago that interest rates would drop by nearly 5% in a little over 6 months. 10% in 5 years would not be surprising, especially as inflation is falling and will be less than 1% in 12 months, so be prepared for that to bounce fairly sharply within the next 5 years in unison with interest rates to try and control it.

Maybe not likely, but certainly possible. Cutting rates this much does carry risks and one of them is that inflation might return with a vengeance. I know it doesn't seem likely right now, but 5 years is a long time.

We've been in the unpleasant situation where my brother and I have had to sell my dad's house (he died at the end of last year). Selling a house for less that it's worth when you have no choice is distinctly grim for everyone. Seeing people taking advantage of that doesn't warm the cockles.

I can understand that. We've just pulled out of a deal as we found there was a tragic accident cry at the house within the last 2 years (ETA: by searching keywords via Google, of course the EA wasn't completely straight as they never are, but we found out).

A few of my colleagues suggested we continue but demand a reduced price!eek

Way over the line in my book.

I'm missing something. Why would an accident outside a house stop you from buying the house?

yes

Perhaps you may consider me superstitious but as it is my monies applicable to this potential purchase, of a not inconsiderable sum, then surely it is my call?

ETA: There are a number of reasons why I chose to make my decision, some pragmatic and others of a less pragmatic and arguabaly less realistic nature but, as they say, if it all the same to you... wink

Just to add a closure, the comment was directed at the post previous to that which I quoted!

A quick Rightmove search throws up 1000's (literally) of properties for sale within 25 miles of the airport.

I don't know the area, your requirements, etc, etc, so its pointless trying to find somewhere.
Thank you for your comments and of course it is regrettable that it transpires, by virtue of the quotation hereto, that you are unable to make suggestions that would help our house hunt.

That said I hoped that, given your initial response and my surmisation on the basis of your profile autobiography, you would be able to do so.

Thanks once again for your input, in particular the observation about bungalow plot sizes and the layout of the new build, and taking the time to review on a generally applicable basis. smile
