Anyone fancy a nice period 6 bed townhouse in Glasgow's leafy west end for not mad money?

Who doesn’t love a period townhouse in Glasgow or Edinburgh! I like that a lot, though not sure I could live in a city anymore. Actually I definitely couldn’t love in a city anymore.

Not for everyone, but an impressive location and an interesting back story.

No sniggering at the agent’s name either…

Whoah that's cool. There's other cool castles with that agent too.

In isolation, I really like that, and I love the west end, but there's no chance I'm spending >£1m to live in Glasgow with no off-street parking or garage (or anywhere, for that matter)

In fact it would be a step backwards, because at least I currently have off-street parking.

Edited by TheJimi on Thursday 16th November 16:58
There is a lane out the back. If you really really wanted to live there and have garaging you could use the lane to access the rear of the prroperty and drive into your converted lower ground level.....

Spalding alert. It's seen much better days than today, but my goodness it's got some great houses for cheap.

Mad size, reminds me of the restaurant Jamie Oliver had in Cheltenham, classic Gothic

All the same link chap!

It's pretty insane though. Can't decide if I love or hate it.
Hate it. Creepy.
Love it… but I’d need to change my lifestyle and round up local politicians and celebrities for weekly judging sessions in the court room.
I'd be running murder mystery nights out of it, you can even go as far as the court case and sending them down!

This could go in either the nightmares or the Pawn threads, given its weirdness and uniqueness. I guess I fantasise about an alter-ego who is single and wants to live in a place like that.

As with many of these quirky buildings, that would make a terrible home but a great AirBnB.
You'll soon get tired of trying to get up to the observatory with your morning cuppa.
I would have a tap and a kettle on the top floor.

I'd get every stairlift company to quote for taking me all the way from bottom to top and then crowd fund to buy a drone big enough to fly me to the top.

This has potential (to be ruinuously expensive in the refurb).

It does, however, have *the* pivotal feature. Not just an excellent garage, but one with an internal drain:

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/138253265#/...

Now I can wash my car inside. Seriously. My primary criteria are location, then a double garage or workshop without internal columns and ideally with an internal drain. Everything else is secondary.

That’s fabulous. Spend a few grand on updating the decor and it’d suit us just fine. Lovely area too. Superb countryside but not too remote. Running costs might be a bit toppy though.

That is a nice place - well located, designed and specced out (apart from the boring radiators). If the garage was a meter wider, it would be even better!
Wonder what the ceiling heights are like? - can't tell from the photos or video.

As soon as i seen dog shower had a funny feeling which house it was.
We holiday in Dornie and got married at the castle, so ideal area for us.
Just a pity we cant afford it.

If you look the streetview it's an *extensive* refurb of a seventies build. So, 2.4m?

I've stared longingly at the 57Nord airbnb place on the hill just behind it for yonks. I'll stay there one day - but it's always booked out! The imagery on its instagram account is beyond stunning.

(And this is why the locals hate the incomers. Is this spot at risk of become a pastiche of the so-called Highlands? Irrespective it is the pinnacle, even if it is a cliche).

57 Nord
We looked at staying there. Very nice!
Have you seen the prices? eek
Yes i know it has been significantly updated, walked past many a year so remember the old house.
It was a tired old place but thankfully brought back to life.
The locals are quite OK about outsiders to live in the area in our experience.
We stay in a place very local and when we were looking to move up there before cough( covid)
The locals were very helpfull, very friendly and offered plenty of advice.

Money aside we would move there tomorrow.

I agree it does look cracking although I wonder what it will actually sell for being the Scottish system. It is also underneath some hefty powerlines; that's not always popular.

I’m posting this one because it’s interesting rather than because I like it. It’s a G1, 10-bedroom 16th century money pit and I’d rather live in the modern house in the grounds to be honest.

That caught fire a few years ago, it’s in the wrong place for a £2.75m GI house.

I"d find the clothes dryer in shot more troubling... Depending of course what may end up on those acres of fields between the house and the proles...

Had a look when I was passing a couple of months ago - it's pretty much hidden down a track behind trees and a big hedge, but one field away from the A57 Sainsbury's/McDonald's etc.

Interesting place, but...

You just know those fields are going to be built on, just like the other estate a couple of fields to the north currently is, as well as the expanding industrial estate. If you look at the map you'll see they already have two access roads set up pointing into that field in the picture, ready for future expansion.
