Possible the allowing damp bridging between outside and inner walls. Watch the video on attached link;

I was just wondering that! It is probably a law of diminishing returns but another 200mm on top for £25 can't be a bad thing...can it?
My thoughts exactly.

Is there such thing as too much loft insulation?
If its fitted properly then no, but you get less return from more insulation. The first 100mm does more than the second 100mm etc.

I paid £49 last year for our loft, 4 bedroom house.
I used

to view deals on offer in our area.
Cheers for that link, just had a peek and can get cavity wall insulation done for £69, seems a bargain as thats about 3 weeks electric & gas usage on average!

Chaps.

DIY newbie here.

I've quickly boarded my loft area to store stuff. Whats the easiest way to insulate and still retain the boards? Is it such I should build myself an additional 'framework' with the intention to board on top of that?

You can get boards with insulation attached to them, but if you already have the boards that won't be much help. You only real option is to extend the joists but given the current recommeded level of insulation at > 270mm you are going to have to increase them by quite a bit. I had0 the same issue in my loft. I threw the crap out!
