I had a mail too. Another 8.2% increase, although I suspect most if not all companies will also be raising prices in the coming days. It usually seems to happen that way.
On a related note, petrol has also gone up lately. My local BP is now £1.30 a litre for unleaded and other garages nearby only a penny or two cheaper.

Just received the email. Time to start shopping around. Apparently energy prices has doubled since this time last year.... really?
YoY they probably have tbh. Last year demand was wayyyy down due to covid, and it was sunny and warm. Now demands are back up, input costs (gas/carbon) are much higher, and it's cold. FWIW we saw gas as cheap as 15/20p/therm last summer, it's currently worth about 70p/therm. I think we might have even seen 9p gas and it wouldn't have surprised me to see negative gas prices for short periods, but negative gas never came to pass. Negative power was not uncommon. Bulb don't do fixed prices, which is great when prices come down but not so good when they go back up again!
I find the comparison sites are a con - you need to compare the figures yourself
I'm with Igloo currently paying
Electricity
Unit rate 15.049 p/kWh
Standing charge 22.64 p/day
Gas
Unit rate 2.624 p/kWh
Standing charge 26.075 p/day
Oh - links aren't allowed - if you want us both to save £50, PM me
(I presume that is allowed ?)

its the supply and demand of the market. No manipulation involved. If anything countries are trying to produce and ship more gas than ever before.
Be realistic - demand on the whole is going to be very predictable and relatively stable. In fact, it’s a great customer base, ideal in fact; other industries would love to have the consistent predictable demand the energy companies enjoy. They can look back for 10 or 20 years and see annual usage easily. Instead they give all that crap about wholesale prices rising. Edit, Ukrainian price:
The price of electricity is 0.047 U.S. Dollar per kWh for households
For comparison, the average price of electricity in the world for that period is 0.139 U.S. Dollar per kWh for households
So we are paying 3 times the price of Ukraine assuming we pay similar to that dollar price.
Double edit
fking he’ll we pay:
price of electricity is 0.269 U.S. Dollar per kWh for households
There you fking go

You can hold whatever opinion you like, but factually prices are significantly higher than last year - at least 3 times as much. The carbon costs for producing power are about double what they were. And while you can believe that demand is "very predictable" gas and to an extent power demand is highly correlated with temperature and weather. We are currently experiencing the coldest May in decades which means heating demand is considerably higher than last year and nearly all recent years.
That is before you talk about... Germany closing coal and nuclear and relying more on gas generation. China shifting a huge amount of generation and domestic heating away from coal and towards gas. Ongoing effects of the US cold snap in April which shut down a large amount of US LNG liquification, etc etc.
From memory Bulb customers had a price drop last March/April when prices crashed due to Covid? You can't expect it to go down and not go up when prices recover!
This is the price graph for TTF (Dutch) gas futures, 6 month chart. Price is almost exactly twice where it was 6 months ago. €24 today vs €12 in December.

That seems very cheap I've just looked on their website and it's unable to give quotes at the minute but I downloaded their standard rates and they are far higher.Electricity - 13p per day standing charge and 15p per kWh

Which area & tariff are you on ?
Yep going to be an extra £1.68 a week for me so a quick calculation ............... 3 cigarettes less a week and sorted job done panic over
Now to put things into perspective I found out yesterday that my local has put the price of cider up by 50p a pint Should I switch? Is there a "go compare site for pub prices? Do pubs do fixed prices for a 24 month contract?
Get a grip guys

Yeah they seem to be having issues at the minute, my app went wild before. Tarrif:Which area & tariff are you on ?
"As of 09 February 2021, your personal projection (est. annual cost) for your E.ON Fix Online Exclusive v60 plan is £927.69. This is based on consumption figures of 2900 kWh for electricity and 12000 kWh for gas."
Might have been some kind of introductory offer as we hadn't been with eon before and had just moved into the house. Were in the North East.

This is my issue with the comparison sites if I look on them they give me a lower quote with a competitor but then I look at their rates and they are higher than I am paying now - so clearly they would be higher in reality."As of 09 February 2021, your personal projection (est. annual cost) for your E.ON Fix Online Exclusive v60 plan is £927.69. Have you quoted the itemized rate on the bill ?

Their last price rise in April was Increasing my annual bill by £137. If this rise added another £85 then that's over £200 pa increase in a couple of months.
