Stay in a cheap hotel
What do you define as a cheap hotel?
I consider anything less than £200 a night cheap, but then I'm not a raving loony..........

This.

If not, OP is just a narcissist. He's not homeless, just attention seeking.

Brilliant thread, although now concerned I've given away my user name which might become a problem?
It's ok - I used a sharpie marker to block your name out on my screen to protect your privacy.

Not really sure what to do now. I've just turned 31, no family, no friends or ties of any kind, I am a civil engineer by education and trade - out of contract currently so, 'unemployed'. To my name I have a £1500 car, a car jam packed full of belongings and about £24000 in the bank.
Out of curiosity, how do you register and insure a car with no address? If it is still at a former address, then I'd rock up to the nearest IPC controlled car park, and set up camp!

Have you considered taking residence in a self storage place? Most of the independent places are minimal checks.

I've rented 2 places in London, both around £1,500 per month without any reference checks, because I refuse to pay for them.

First time I met the landlord through an agent who was only advertising, not managing the rental.

Second time I went to see the flat, asked the agency how much it was, and then said I'd take it. They asked for £250 and a bunch of documents for admin checks. I just waited 3 days and then emailed them back and said how about I don't do that and we just get this rental agreement signed. They said there was no possible way, so I said OK. I emailed them again in another 2 days and got the same response so I left it. 2 days later they emailed me to say when do you want to come get the keys?

What a pointless and pathetic thread...

To sum up;

Man stays in hotel for a few nights, whilst looking for a new place to stay...

Does anyone remember those begging ads you used to get in the classified section of Private Eye? This thread reminds me of them.

Just a small donation to my university costs would really help me succeed!

There's obviously some reason why the OP doesn't want his background looked into, so needs to find a way forward while keeping his past to himself. This doesn't in any way make him a buffoon etc.
It makes him Jack Reacher!
Or one of those 'Freemen of the Land'? Can't find the video link that was doing the rounds a couple of years ago but they do seem to share the same attitude as the OP in terms of sharing any information.

Is this because you were never homeless?... just a temper tantrum and back into the same old room at mum & dads. Not sure how that works though because they already know your name and date of birth. Stock up on bacofoil my friend

I don't think it's unreasonable for landlords to do basic checks.
They want to know you have a steady income or the means to pay, or they're taking the risk of being out of pocket. They also want to know if you have a history of bad financial decisions, which again will increase the risk of them losing out. Unfortunately the term landlord implies a loadsamoney type character trying to squash the little man, in reality many are ordinary people on a fine line between profit and loss
