Rad cold at bottom & hot on top !
Discussion
Hi Guys,
The time of year has come where Mrs. Ice, insists on have the heating on all the time!!!...well when we are home that is !!
Our combi boiler is only a couple of years old and all the pipe work and rads were replaced at the same time.
The problem is some rads are really hot at the top and cold at the bottom?
When I go to bleed the rads, water comes out and no air?!
So what do I do?
IceBoy
PS I'm comfortable without the heating until at least December !!!!

First thought was that the affected rads could be sludged up - but after just a couple of years ?
Have you tried turning working rads off and seeing if any of the others start to warm up at the bottom ?
Failing that, maybe whip one of the cold rads off and flushing it through with a hosepipe to see if there is a buildup of crud near the base ?

Sounds like they're silted up. Take one off and outside and flush it with a hose pipe and see what comes out. If it's black and nasty then do them all, or pay a plumber about £400 to flush them all it situ. When done, make sure you have inhibitor in the water to prevent it happening again.
