Hi all,

I rent a fairly new build barn conversion which has a mixture of low energy Kosnic gu10s in the bedrooms and kitchen and old school halogen gu10s in the rest of the house. The low energy ones have been the bane of our lives since we moved in. They take forever to come up to any kind of useable light, have a really cold bluey tinge when switched on and make the bedrooms and kitchen feel really, I dunno, depressing.

One by one the Kosnics have gone pop and today I randomly found a box of halogen gu10s at the back of the garage so as a temporary measure went round the house replacing all the blown and handful of still-working low energy ones with halogens.

Oh my God. The difference is like night and day. The kitchen feels like a different room. I can see right to the backs of cupboards, there's an inch of grime on the cooker hood that I've never even noticed before and the whole room feels bigger, brighter, lighter and more colourful.

I've now just got planning permission for my own house so figured that I can experiment while I'm still here with some different gu10s to replace the old ones, to see what works best as a halogen repalcement. Does anyone have any experience with different kinds of low energy gu10s that I can try for size? My rented house is about 3 years old, PLEASE tell me that low energy technology has come on a bit since then....

LED's with a warm white colour would be the best substitute imo as they should replicate the old halogen light colours and not give that blueish tinge you mention
