Gutting a Victorian house and ripping off all the lathe and plaster walls , but would like to keep and restore the original cornicing is there anyway of doing this, or a company that could do this without some form of organ donation to finance it???

There's a company that cleans the original then makes latex rubber moulds to cast new cornice to the exact same dimensions. Only charge one kidney.

This, read up on how they did it originally. Bit of hessian and some plaster of Paris, away you go.

[Disclaimer] it might not be that simple[\Disclaimer] biggrin

These days it is much less messy.

Get a hold of some silicone putty (same as dentists use to take impressions) and take a mould. Don't buy the cheaper alginate materials, they are not permanent.

Cast up repair sections in plaster of Paris.

I've seen ceilings and wall plaster removed leaving the original cornice in place, I don't think it's an unusual request.

Is it of particular significance that makes it worth the bother over knock down and replacement with an off the shelf repro item?

There's an old school firm in Bristol that do it, just off the Gloucester Road. I used them many years ago and it was perfect.
