The three port valve on the boiler's packed up.

We've been quoted £200 plus the part to swap it over. Is this a reasonable price? Kent based if that makes much difference, and clueless when it comes to this sort of thing (it just feels a little lumpy).

Three way valve on CH done Oooop North for 150 including the parts - full assembly not just the motor - and draining the system down to fit

Sounds a little steep to me.

I can do these in around 30 mins by freezing the pipe, if he is planning on draining the system it will obviously take a lot longer.

Our 3 port mid-position valve started behaving erratically a few months ago, so we bought another actuator and fitted it ourselves. There was no need to disturb the valve body and therefore no need to drain the system etc.

You only have to drain a small part of the system if the valve is upstairs. 200 + valve is pretty steep; I do it for ~150 inc valve. Can usually do it in about 30 mins.

If the job involves the complete valve there is not a chance in hell it'll be done in 30 mins. set up, draining/bunging/freezing etc plus wiring the valve back in, testing etc. not a massive job but not a half hour job. a straight head swap etc is a half hour job but not replacing the complete valve. 99% of complete valves can be done within the hour.

your post is too vague and people can only make inaccurate guesses on time and cost. as a guide it could be:

- failed actuator, some are replaceable on their own (depends on make).
- failed synchron motor (sometimes replaceable on their own)
- seized spindle, can be regreased on some
- passing internals - easier to replace complete body
- leaking through the spindle, new valve time

then you have to consider what make the valve is, is it being replaced with a direct replacement or one that now requires an earth? is it a switchmaster valve that needs the pipework altering to suit plus wiring changed?

^^^ I'm afraid you've lost me a bit there.

Thanks for the tips.

It was the three way valve itself that had packed up. I'm in Kent, and ended up getting it replaced today (along with a radiator coming off the wall to allow a bit of plastering) for £156 plus the parts (which the wife had already got). It needed the system draining down.
