Loft/Roof Question
Discussion
I have just put a couple of boards down in the loft to give me a bit more storage. There are a couple of bracing bits of wood (marked with red an yellow arrows) that I am wondering if I can modify or remove.
They both appear to be off cuts of tongue and groove boarding. The piece in red is has no tension in it and is secured to the upright piece and the two diagonal pieces by nails. I was wondering if I could replace this with something lower down near the green arrow so that I can step over it rather than try and bend under it. It looks higher in the picture than it actually is. The yellow piece is again tongue and groove but has a split running along it. This is barley attached at either end and moves a couple of inches so isn't really doing anything at the moment.
Can I remove/modify these bits? Should the longer piece be replace with something that is actually doing something?

Had a similar arrangement in my loft, i.e. rafters and purlins but with a couple of additional trusses. They didn't feel lie they were doing much as you could bend them easily but the advice was to leave them alone none the less.
It's all gone now anyway post loft conversion, everything is supported on a big steel frame.
If you want to rearrange I'd get some professional advice first.

I thought that might be the case, I can live with them as is. It would have been handy to do something with the one that is near the loft hatch as it is a bit awkward to duck and edge round the hatch.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
