I would like to put around 10 mains led lights around the garden and have light inside the shed. Currently there is aelectrical box outside the kitchen window that the builders left for garden lighting or a socket. How can I wire the garden lights so I can turn them on/off and have a light in the shed so I dont have to have the garden lights on if I want the shed light on. If you get my drift?
The lights are 5w each.

thanks

I was planning the same thing with some driveway lights, but ended-up researching DECENT solar lights and bought 10 stainless steel LED post lights (model is London XT) from Solar Centre. They're much brighter than any solar light I've had before and look really good. Highly recommended to avoid all the hassle of wiring mains lights outside.

Use a remote socket in the house.

Run SWA (armoured) cable through the house wall to an outside socket. Plug your outside lighting circuit into this.

In the house connect the SWA through a junction box to some flex with a plug on the end. Stick the plug into the remote socket switch and that into the wall socket.
Used this method for years.

I also have a separate remote control to other lights via my detatched garage. Using this method it is easy to isolate the garden power if needed.

Use a Wise box, then run 4 or 5 core SWA around the garden with Wiska boxes at various locations then wire lights to the wiska boxes, by running 4 or 5 core it gives the option of lighting certain areas up.

Ours are wired to an outside socket which has a wireless/radio type switch on it, so we can turn the lights on using the remote from inside the house.

No. If the lights in the garden are mains you need SWA to each light and I'd have an RCD on the circuit too. The SWA should be 18" below ground with a weather proof socket or junction at each light. Just done this. 100ft of trench. Dedicated socket in the workshop with a Samsung smart things wifi plug to activate/time from iPhone app.

50w equivalent led spots into the trees from Lighting Ever. There is loads of lessons learnt and trial and error in those few sentences. Let me know if you need more.

Non mains low volt a lot easier. Went mains as want to be able to swap spots for festoons in the trees for parties.

I did most of work but sparks mate did RCD and sign off part p which is what drives the SWA and depth.

Trench.

Lights partially in, waiting for more weatherproof sockets . Doesn't do it justice.
