Any of the PH denizens done some of this?

I quite like making odd stuff out of old junk.

Have done the obligatory lamps, towel rail out of old oars and a giant wall clock made from old roof slates. Mostly of the time I fail badly but every now and then something comes out OK.

So what have you clever folks created over the years?

Would love to see what someone with actual skill can do! Might give me something to aspire to - or more likely make me give up!

Couple of pics of a few of my amateur efforts:-

7 foot diameter wall clock: I got v wobbly knees putting this thing up. The top is a good 20 ft above the floor. Nearly fell of the ladder too as I leaned back to check alignment.

Lamp made from an old stone fence support and a bit of an old plough I found in the field next to us - plus some very ancient chain discovered rusting away on an old stone gate post in the woods! It is heavy!

A bit cliched but here is an old 1950's aluminium STRAND PATT 23 stage lamp polished up and converted for a normal bulb. At least it is not the lightweight rubbish reproduction things on sale everywhere. Need a better tripod - still looking for that!

Nice old oak lightweight camera tripod with some sort of alien head type lamp on top. Reminds me of the War of the Worlds album cover a bit. Looks great but don't touch it as it is a bit delicate!

Old oars converted in to a double towel rail. Needs a bit of rejigging to get it perfect but it works pretty well at least.

Over to you guys.........

I made an old exhaust bracket, bumper bracket and some bolts into a cup holder in my old Land Rover.

Not quite in the same league as what you're doing though.

A friend of mine makes a reasonable living doing just this. The Strand theatre lamps are always popular

The wheel in to a coffee table idea sounds great.

I know it is a complete rip off from Top Gear but I also love the glass topped Engine table thing they had - but that would definitely be vetoed by the wife because a). she had a knack of stubbing her toes on anything hard and b). the chance of an oil leak would be too stressful for her!

Ideally I'd like to get hold of a hub assembly and wishbones to incorporate into the base, but as the wishbones are (I think) uneven in length, it would require some kind of DIY additions which I suspect would be beyond my DIY skills to execute well.

I'd really like to make something like this but sadly it is well beyond my abilities I think.

I might be able to make one that looks like the clock in the pic below but the chances of it actually telling time accurately are extremely slim!

Very cool though:-

I made a couple of Sentry style log stores:

Pallets of course, some old pantiles on the roof. Just got to find time to finish off the lead ridge, chop the logs and fill them up!
