I have an interest in this as I have a company that fits LightwaveRF gear, so I'm not fully impartial - but I recommend you take a look at LightwaveRF vs Energenie. In our opinion the LightwaveRF gear is much more elegant and more flexible. It's all at the budget end of home automation of course, but the Energenie gear feels much more 'budget' than LightwaveRF.

I'm running the Energenie gateway and 4 double sockets and a couple of light switches.
I also have them hooked up to Alexa.
They were the cheaper way for me to try home automation and to be honest I can't fault them so far.
Had them controlling a Christmas light setup, also table lamps in the front room, I can also turn off bedroom lighting and boil my kettle all from voice command in bed.

I use the Energenie sockets quite a bit and find them useful, especially when linked in with Alexa.

I did have a bit of a concern about availability because Screwfix seem to keep running out of stock. I have emailed Energenie though and they did assure me they were in the process of a new agreement with Screwfix and other suppliers, and they are now certified for Nest as well and had no plans to cease production any time soon.

Ok. Thanks all.

The cost vs light wave seems a lot better for something I don't need plus the energy consumption bit looks interesting.
