Anybody have one or used one? I quite fancy totally re-vamping our 3M x 2M bathroom in a Japanese style.

Being a lazy bd I hate showers but Wifey is a fan so this option would give us space for both or (if I get my way) scrap the separate cubicle idea altogether for a shower over and use the remaining space for some arty farty use of the space.

Any thoughts?

This sort of idea without the naff shower (maybe just a rain shower from the ceiling).............

That looks neat. We have a tiny bathroom that will need refurbishing sooner or later, will consider one.

I have one. It's fabulous! Takes about 20 minutes to fill and then you can soak with everything below your nostrils in hot water - absolute bliss.

I don't think a 3x2m bathroom is big enough to carry off that style of tub (plus free standing shower, basin/s and w/c etc)

There wont be more than one basin, possibly not a free standing shower (can't see why not though if you consider a soak tub could be a meter cubed), and definitely no etc's wink

What we have at the moment is a full size bath, large basin, WC and a now redundant boiler cupboard. It's your average 3 bed semi type bathroom.

Avoid.

I once stayed in a ryokan that had one.

Did the whole washing oneself down on the pre-school stool bit, complete with wooden ladle. Then moved onto the main event - the hot tub.

I wasn't sure about this as dimensionally it did not look suitable for a larger athlete such as myself. Not only did it look short, but the foot print looked small too, and far from comfortable. The person I was with was very encouraging though, so in for a penny.

I dipped a toe in as it looked quite hot to me, and I'm not a fan of boiling hot baths. Went a bit further and thought I'd get used to it so lowered my first leg in to where I thought the bottom of the fking thing should logically be when eyeballing the height of it externally. Wrong! More than half of it was sunken.

I slipped in with one leg in and the other ending up somewhere near my chin (not somewhere it ever normally enjoys being). My fears on the temperature were also well founded and my balls were now totally submerged in water you could boil an egg in (as well as plums). Of course I was utterly unable to relieve this situation as I was now doing the splits in a partial standing position, and the dimensions of the tub were such that I was pretty well wedged in!

Fortunately after almost literally pissing herself with laughter my partner in this experience managed to help extricate me from the tub without calling the ladies who ran the establishment to assist the oaf gaijin who had disrupted the tranquility of the place and probably also flooded it with scolding hot water.

The sheer discomfort of that experience would make it very hard for me to ever recommend one. It was only trumped by going to bed not long after and sleeping on a tatami mat! (Shikibuton my arse).

The Japanese are an amazing people, and I love them and their country dearly. But just buy a normal bath or have a shower. You, and your balls, will thank me.

And I think it'll look carp in something that size, just saying. They aren't exactly practical either.
