Ok so the taps on the bath are dripping. I would change the washer, but the screw that holds the washer on is no longer in existence as it's corroded away and vanished. SO easiest would be a new gland. Done the same job on the hand basins, no problem.

Check internet. Glands come in 1/2 inch (basins) and 3/4 inch (Bath).

To B&Q. Only one option for a 3/4 inch, is but a 3/8 gland and new handle, with 1/2 and 3/4 adaptors. No bother.

Go to fit it. Smallest adaptor is too small. Biggest is too big. Smallest is 3/4 inch all the way across the thread. Biggest is 1 1/4 inch all the way across the thread. Old gland is 1 inch all the way across the thread.

Poxy B&Q. To screwfix. Get bath tap gland, gland has the same adaptor the B&Q has, which takes it up to being just too small (don't buy it). They can't both be wrong, that must be the expected size and I must have a 1" odd size gland.

Next day
To screwfix again this time buy a 3/4 inch to 1 inch "bush". Well. That doesn't fit in the tap either. It's 1 1/4 across, but, the original gland screws into it nicely. Which to me would confirm that the original gland is "3/4 inch". But all the 3/4 inch glands are not...

Any ideas? WTF is going on? Where can I buy a tap gland that's got a thread which is a total of 1 inch across, and screws into a 3/4 inch BSP fitting. Not screwfix or B&Q clearly...

I chose a cheaper option: 1/2 inch tap gland and a 3/4" to 1/2" "Bush" http://www.screwfix.com/p/bush-x-/98427
Plus some PTFE tape and viola. Working taps for just an additional 99p per tap.

I'm still none the wiser why a 3/4" BSP hole, is bigger than every tap in the country sold as a 3/4" tap. What size are the bushes they supply with the 1/2" tap? Because they are not 3/4". And what the hell uses them?
