Just a quick question for wood burning 'beardies' out there. We are having our fire place converted to a wood burner and have the choice of lining the area at the rear/sides of the wood burner with Vitcas High temperature Plasterboard or Fermacell Powerpanel H20?

Does anyone know if there is much of a difference between the two ie Pros and Cons.

Thanking all in anticipation.

My wife and I are in heated debate. Fitters have Fermacell and I have been recommended Vitcas. They are happy to fit either.

Additionally as you say, most of her colleagues have bare brick although that is clearly not the most thermally efficient.

I am hoping someone has lined their breast ;-)

Ours is also brick/rendered. Even if on all day the walls barely get warm, it's been in situ for over 7 years, and used for a good 6 months each year.

The rear and the two sides of the log burner are lined with vermiculite panels (clearview vision 500), I cannot see how insulation on the walls would make much, if any difference.

Would I be correct in assuming they're just cutting a bigger hole and building a false stud partition faced with either board. Or are they just making an enlarged opening and just lining it with it?

Just lining the enclosure/fireplace and then painting over presumably also to give a cleaner look.

I have two layers of 9mm asbestolux with brick slips on top.

Much as I found Chesney's to be rather sniffy with poor attention to detail, you may like their panels: https://www.chesneys.co.uk/products/accessories/in...
