Compressed , and free at your local builders merchants as they usually put them in the skip , burn really hot but they do smell a bit outside.

I seem to recollect these being recommended in another thread and, not withstanding the aspects of burning some one else's rubbish (ie the legal aspects of waste disposal) or burning glued together substances (toxic fumes etc) what would I ask for at my local builders depot (TravPerk for example)?
It was me that recommended them , they burn very hot . You could argue that your recycling waste into heat and saving landfill and transport to the landfill site and saving trees as your burning waste if anyone says anything .Try asking for " pallet kickers or pallet skids " they are normally pleased to be rid of them , I give one of the guys a bottle of vodka now and again to save them to one side , I've never bought logs for ages .

I've always assumed those pallet jobbies were glued together and not great for burning. I dismembered some old pallets the other day to use the wood in the fire, but threw away the 4" cubed blocks that looked like MDF/Ply. Should I have been burning them too?
No idea, but I've been burning them for about 15 years in our woodburner without a problem...RizzoTheRat said:

That reminds me of a Harry Hill moment where he said his Dad used to cut the white bit from his steaks and feed it to the kids telling them the brown bit would make them ill. RicksAlfas said:

Thanks Paul, I'll ask my local depot next time I order some goodies. I'm not worried about burning them myself but recollect some other posters Try asking for " pallet kickers or pallet skids " they are normally pleased to be rid of them , I give one of the guys a bottle of vodka now and again to save them to one side , I've never bought logs for ages .
We used the compressed logs. They are ok but you need a woodburn first to get them going. They expand a fair bit to so you can end up other 4 or 5 inches of red embers in the bottom of the log burner. They can burn hot but it's not consistent like a log. They take ages to get going then expand like hell get super hot then drop off.
I did throw one in the other day with air feed open a bit more than usual. Went in the shower and came down in my boxers to check on dinner and it was like a Chernobyl reactor in the room. I was stood in my boxers sweating my tits off trying to tame the beast.
