What to roof my garage with?
Discussion
The garage has started to spring leaks in multiple places, to an extent that it's probably time to give up and rip the old covering off and start again!
It's ~10 years old so I guess a bit short of normal life expectancy but not the end of the world, the Asphalt Shingles are about 3-4mm thick currently, laid directly onto the roof boards. it's about a 20deg pitch and appx 70SqMtr of area (ish)
What options have I got and are there any good places to get the new covering from? Anything I need to think about in terms of Ridge/Gulley/Gables etc? - it'll be DIY (when the weather is better though!)
Thanks
Jim
Bad photo but it's about 9M * 9M (less the patio chunk)![](http://thumbsnap.com/sc/JIylcbMz.jpg)

Cedar shingles? The front bay of my house is done with these - I've been living here for about 15 years, and never treated them. They were originally stained with something, but it has weathered well and now looks just about right.
Could be expensive, though - mine haven't rotted at all, but when I eventually refinish them it will be a quick slap of Cuprinol or similar. No idea why all the houses round me were done the same way - it's an upstairs bay.
I know the yanks just pull the old asphalt shingles off, re-board where needed, and pay Mexicans to put on new ones.
Probably not many Mexicans round your way, though!

What about using artificial slates. Would be about the same colour as the existing shingles, and would last for ever.
Flat sheet would be an option to - remove old shingles, and sheet it. Dark green or brown would be fine for a colour match, and you could put a bit more overhang on the sheets to protect the garage walls. Apparently that's the key for keeping wooden building lasting - a big overhang.
Nice garage BTW.
