In order to not derail Bebee's thread I thought I'd post up a separate thread to show pics of the desk/bookcase I've built for the boy's room.

I'm no expert at his sort of thing so it's a bit rough and ready in places - but it's my son's room so that doesn't matter too much.

Mostly put together using a biscuit jointer.

Started out as a lot of 8" x 1" pine

Base cabinet carcasses built and doors made - mouldings around the base were purchased

And fitted together

2 bases - all painted

Now for the desk top - put together, edges routed and cut out at back for power cables (computer etc)

Wax stained and oiled

And fitted in place

Next step - shelves for the top, you can see how limited for space I've been doing this, single garage full of stuff

And shelves in place, fixed to wall. Facing bits on and moulding around the top. These pics are just as I finished so it's a little tidier now

There are led colour changing light strips throughout which the boy loves

Better pic (and yes, it's a toy shotgun lying on the desk)

Enjoyed doing it and now going to start on my girl's bedroom - it's the box room so needs some creative thinking!

That's great and looks really good.
Thanks for posting. My woodwork skills are not that good I am afraid but it certainly has helped me.

Looks very good and built properly too. eight out of ten. Why did I drop you two points? Units fall short of the walls/ Why? Didn't you measure the gap correctly?;)

Not sure I did specifically, learnt some from my old man but mostly just thought about it and got on with it

There's a plan to everything

If I understand you - why doesn't it go to the wall on the right hand side? Is that what you mean?

1. There a double socket down there which I want access to
2. The window goes close to the wall so the curtain would hang in front of the shelves
3. The space there was designed for a ladder he could pull out to reach the top shelves
