HI All -

We're in the process of putting together plans for the renovation of our bungelow & one of the issues raised by the architect is the location of the soil vent pipe and being able to connect these to where we're planning our new bathroom within the new layout.

Basically - as it stands, we have a family bathroom on the front of the house which we are planning to move to the back.

There is also an ensuite where we currently have a macerator/pump that is similarly distanced from the main waste drain - this pumps externally down 2' pipe around the side of the house - which is sub optimal for a number of reasons.

Are there means of transiting poop, without tearing through the floor?

The new bathroom would be about 8m further back than the current and a very long way from the road drain - so i guess this further exaserbates the problem?

Anyone had similar experience on a renovation or build?

Have tried googling but not to much avail..... any help or advice most welcome!

If you dont want to dig up floors, why not dig in a new soil pipe around the outside of the house? This is assuming that the sewer is deep enough for you to get enough fall on your new soil pipe.

That's what we did recently. We fitted two en suites in our new extension which were on the opposite side of the house from the bathroom and drains. It meant running new drains along the other side of the house, across the drive and connecting into the existing manhole which is just inside our front garden. A lot of work but worth it.

btw, from the drawing you have shown, that is years old. I don't think anyone bothers with branch vents anymore. an anti siphon trap is all you need these days.

it's about 20m round the house - so on 1 in 60 thats 30cm drop... (i think)

Main inspection chamber is about 15m from the front of the house...

I'll dig out a map - as pretty diffocult to explain...

here is an old map - our extension is going to the left of the property as you look at it from the road.

I suppose the easiest route would be to tap into the drains on blades close, but i would imaging this would be a council ball ache (plus its slightly uphill)

You will need to know the invert level at the IC in your garden in order to work out the falls to it (and also if there is a difference in ground levels between the extension and the IC).

Provided that he has the fall, can he not just break into the existing drain at the front of his house and drop in another IC there, rather than run another pipe 15 m down the garden ?

That's why he will need to know the invert level of the IC in his garden. He may even be able to go straight into it without building another IC.
