Show me your place of escape!
Discussion
Chaps, sure its been done to death in some shape or form but would be interested to see where you escape to within your home? Looking for ideas before moving to next home and I definitely want somewhere I can get away to do some work, play, relax etc. Whether its a study, man cave or fully kitted out garage would be great to see! Something I can only dream of. Would be good to see others though.
Next house must have scope for this, some sort of brewery / cinema / pub hybrid is what I need
Totally agree! I have a complete open mind as to what space will become mine but I definitely need somewhere. Next house must have scope for this, some sort of brewery / cinema / pub hybrid is what I need

I'm boring and/or odd.
My favourite room is my office which contains lots of boxes of stuff, shelves of books etc but it's where I happily watch YT videos or waste time online or occasionally get work done.
Sounds like the perfect place to get nothing done Hoofy No good without pictures for inspiration though!!My favourite room is my office which contains lots of boxes of stuff, shelves of books etc but it's where I happily watch YT videos or waste time online or occasionally get work done.

-Imagine two desks, one has two PC monitors, the other strewn with old watches, a Dremmel, some CDs, some marketing material for my business,
-a third desk has a digital piano on it, next to that an old midi-size stereo
-opposite that wall, shelves of books
-5 old desktop PCs
As I say, not an inspiring place but I get st done in here and I relax in here. My living room is hardly used. I only go in there to use weights stored against one wall or to entertain guests.

No pictures, sorry, it's not a place to inspire. It's a real man cave of junk.

I see, sounds like a place where you definitely get stuff done! I must admit I was half expecting something like this -Imagine two desks, one has two PC monitors, the other strewn with old watches, a Dremmel, some CDs, some marketing material for my business,

Due to lack of spare rooms until my young ones grow up and ps off the current escape room is the downstairs loo, usually when I log onto PH, so it's not uncommon for me to be in there half an hour when I stumble upon an epic thread, (the Mrs thought I had been sucked down the toilet when I was reading through Munchers build thread). I insisted on a toilet seat change as the old one would make my legs go numb after 10 minutes. New one is fantastic.
I have the whole house. This is not necessarily a good thing as I have crap everywhere! In my defence, it's all "doing up the house" stuff. I have the basic shell of a hobby room in the garage (thanks, previous owner but one) which, when I get the door replaced so I can get in, may end up as a music room. Or something.
My previous house I actually was lucky enough to have 2 x man caves
Cinema room with 63sq ft screen, Jvc x90 projector and Focal/Linn sound system
Room 2 was my golf simulator. Also had a decent sound system in here too and fridge, bar seating at the back
Moved house 3 years ago and now have this, with Dolby Atmos sound system
Had to downsize screen to 104 inches lol
Zone 2 hasn't been configured yet, a detached garage lookalike but it's actually finished and insulated like a house, spotlights, skirting, painting etc already done, just need to decide what it's going to be now...

I followed your build thread and was very impressed! This is the sort of thing I am drawing inspiration from. If memory serves correctly I also quite liked your window shutters
Edit To Add: What was the cost of your golf sim room? I like the idea of this with GC Quad but not sure the trouble and strife will be so inclined.

The golf sim room was quite cheap (if you don't include the cost of the 2 storey garage which was about £25k!)I followed your build thread and was very impressed! This is the sort of thing I am drawing inspiration from. If memory serves correctly I also quite liked your window shutters

The room ceiling was 10ft high which was plenty, you could maybe do 9ft ceiling but definitely not 8ft unless you are only using short irons for the simulator.
Short throw Projector: ebay - £200 ish
Golf Simulator: £350 ish off ebay
Laptop to run it on: £150 off ebay
Onkyo Amp, Focal speakers and velodyne subwoofer: £600 ish off ebay (could easily get away with a £20 set of laptop speakers but I like my audio)
DIY screen - about £200 ish. Made of white blackout blind material, in behind was 4 inch thick polystyrene and a layer of absorbing foam finished with a black velvet and black voile surround
Flooring is a bit like a indoor bowling green material - about £1k worth but paid around £200 off ebay (Not necessary to have this type of floor, but I used this for practicing putting and I had subtle slopes in the floor to create some more interesting putts)

Sounds excellent. Did you just hit balls into the screen? What about netting - I’d have though if you miss the screen - while experimenting with your grip or something - you’d have a ball pinging round in all directions which doesn’t sound very safe! The room ceiling was 10ft high which was plenty, you could maybe do 9ft ceiling but definitely not 8ft unless you are only using short irons for the simulator.

Yes, just hit balls into the screen - netting is safer but looks terrible! The screen is 8ft wide so very difficult to miss from point blank range but you are right, its not safe. I bought various golf balls - from real golf balls to those little plastic practice balls. But a good in-between are the 'almost golf balls' which are the same size, weight and feel of a regular golf ball, but without the hard cover and interior material of a regular golf ball. So if you had a clubhead speed of say 110mph, a regular golf ball would have a ball speed of around 165mph whereas an almost golf ball would have a ball speed much lower.
Some of my swings were in the 115-118mph swing speed with a driver, so having a real golf ball in a 4 walled area travelling in excess of 170mph isn't the safest thing in the world to do. If having a few drinks and larking about - just using the little featherweight practice balls made sense - the other balls were not used when alchohol was involved, thats for sure!
