I’ve recently inherited a pond with the new house.

I have bought a pump and filter combo, filter has three chambers.

When I turn the pump on I am losing a lot of water through the lids on the filter chambers. Almost as if the filter can’t cope with the volume of water coming through it.

Is this just because its new? Or am I doing something wrong.

Both inlet and outlet are 40mm pipe.

Appreciate any advice.

Many thanks

Simond

Could be a number of things:

Make sure your pump is compatible with the filter. Both pump and filter have a maximum flow rates, which should be indicated on each piece of equipment. The pump flow rate should not exceed flow rate of the filter.

The filter should have O rings sealing the lids on the filters, make sure they are fitted and in good condition and lubricated.

This is what I bought

https://www.pondkeeper.co.uk/pondxpert-multichambe...

The lids clip in place, one at each end.

Reduce the pump flow or reduce the filters restriction. You can buy adjustable inline valves to reduce pump flow.

Look into getting a UV Filter too, I have the TMC variant like this :
https://koicarp.co.uk/TMC-Pro-Clear-UV/TMC-Pro-Pon...
keeps water Algae free.
I feed from pump to UV filter then a Y piece to the filter chambers and the other feed to an Aerator like this :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kockney-Yamitsu-AirStorm-...
which helps oxygenate the water.

Thanks for the help chaps.

PondKeeper sent me a better install guide. I needed to a. increase the outlet pipe to 70mm and b. put the outlet lower than the inlet.

This has stopped it leaking so happy days.

Routing 70mm solid pipe where i have planned 40mm flexi wasnt such an easy job, but hopefully will only need doing once.
