My current petrol Webb 53cm mower has served me well, but leaking a little oil, drive is broken and just generally seen better days.

I was going to buy like for like, but noticed I can get the new electric equivalent for the same price. Whilst I'm hesitant to give up my petrol tools, it looks like the batteries and run time have improved. Does anyone have one? How does it compare to a decent petrol mower?

My grass area is approx 25m x 15mat it's widest so the battery should be fine for one cut, but thought it was worth checking.

Open to other recommendations. Budget is around £400, must leave stripes and be 41cm wider or above..

Having just done a lot of research into mowers, the Ego ones get the best right ups. They have just released a rear roller kit for £50 as well, but not sure how good it is.

Thanks for that. I would agree, Ego seem to be the best, but Greenworks the best value, although still not cheap, but almost within budget.

This is an interesting watch...

Do you already have a set of batteries from other cordless tools? If so, then consider that make first.

Yep I've got one, had it just over a year replacing an old Mountfield petrol mower. For smaller lawns I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, its basically the same chassis as one of the Webb petrol mowers so feels like a proper mower unlike some of the cheaper battery mowers, but with the benefits of instant on, not needing to get petrol and making a lot less noise.

I've got one lawn ~12m x 8m and another 8m x 5m and one charge will do 2 mows, although I think with one larger lawn it would cover a larger area as you'd be doing less turns etc. It's not heavy enough to roll out lumps and bumps and flatten anything in the soil but it does a reasonable job at stripes.

Half decent mowers generally use a much larger battery than the average hand tool so not sure there'd be too many options, the Webb for example has a 40v battery about the size of a bag of flour.

Indeed- but that's why the main manufacturers put two or even four batteries into the mower, which makes them equivalent to a big "40V" battery. I have the Makita version (which is very good), but de Walt do similar I believe.
