Moved into a new build two weeks back. Grass had just been laid the previous week.

Grass is clearly growing like mad already and is loving the 95% wet weather we've had up here recently.

Builder said dont stand on it for 2 weeks and dont cut it for 12 weeks.

What say the greenfingered PHers?

If it’s a new build the lawn will probably turn into a swamp soon anyway.

I waited until the roots had taken hold.
I tried lifting the grass in random areas. When I couldn’t lift any part I waited a week before doing the first cut.

No idea if this was correct or not but the grass didn’t die and is still looking good today (one year on).

That's a good idea.

If the roots are down then you could give it a high cut on a nice day but put planks down to spread your weight.

Wait for the Leatherjackets to come take care of the Grass, no need to cut it

My advice is not to let it get too long before being cut.

We had a new build lawn laid last summer during perfect growing conditions and the grass went crazy. Holiday meant we couldn't cut it for at least 3 weeks and it was extremely difficult to cut due to its length and thickness. As a result we ended with up quite a lot of dead grass and thatch after cutting that meant it is now quite thin.
