Here's something I never thought I'd be writing on Pistonheads, but my wife and I cannot find anything we like.

House is Victorian.
Windows are three large sashes. Two in a bay together.
Room has 2.7m high ceilings and is pretty big for a bedroom.

Room is painted Dove Tale (F&B colour).

What we want, which is completely vague, is for the room to look a bit more luxury - ie like a hotel room you'd be delighted to check into in a 5* hotel.

Curtains will be on an electric track, pinch pleated, and will be blackout lined.

What I'm after is curtain fabric recommendations.

Beware of heavy cotton. It shrinks when cleaned.

The only way to really do it is to go to a proper fabric shop, along with a proper painted sample of what you have on your walls, and look through the various pattern books...

Or better still suggest that your wife does ^^^ and then shows you the ones she thinks work best. That way you get the illusion of being in some way involved, without having to spend hours whilst your wife looks at fabric before she chooses the ones she wants/gets frustrated with any suggestion you make.

ETA: be sitting down when you find out what that sort of fabric costs. And, if your wife is planning on getting someone else to make them, have a drink to hand when you hear that price...

Agree, this can't really be done without a visit to a specialist. So much choice.

If you're a bit stuck, then there are s/hand curtain places (Curtain Exchange in SW London from memory?) which will get the conversation started. You may not find the perfect curtains, but you may come away with a better understanding of what you want.

And yes, sit down when discussing the price...

Talk to Louis Calleja at John Nash Interiors. They are based in Ledbury but get everywhere. Perfect for your requirements.

Have you tried Pinterest? It can be very useful when looking for decor suggestions. Just an initial search:

I should have said. I spent two hours in Brent Cross John Lewis, looking through a never ending pile of fabrics. I looked through them all!

John Lewis might not have the range of a proper fabric shop? They have hundreds of books of samples from an array of different manufacturers.
