Hi all

I have an opening of 1435mm and want a door/gate ( not see through ) and lockable using a yale cylinder lock.

There is an old wooden one there at the moment, what other posibilities do I have to choose from and where do I buy one?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Get a chippy round and ask that they make you one?

We went to our local fencing supplier who made a pair of gates to fit the gap we had.

They’re really not hard to make if you can cut wood and work a screwdriver.
B and Q sell kits if you’re not up for just buying boards.

It’s not clear from your question what you’re actually asking.

Something that’s a complete screen and that wide really means timber. I can’t think of anything else that suits unless you substitute the timber for something like a composite plank.

Something that wide will need a decently strong post and hinges.

You could get a steel gate made with a solid sheet and a frame. May be quite dangerous if it’s windy though.

What about a sliding gate if there’s room one side of the opening?

Wood shrinks so much and if any interface here is onto a post, the Yale won’t hold, the bolt is too short and the assembly too springy.

One shake and it will unlock

Yeah seems an odd security specification as it won't be effective.

Yale isn't a good idea for the reasons stated.
I used a Gatemate long throw lock. It's available witha euro-cylinder lock if you want it to match your house keys.

Made a 1.3m wide timber side gate about 10 years ago. Its just sagged slightly in recent years I needed to take 5mm off the bottom edge otherwise all fine.

I Used one of these garden gate locks (below) combined with Suffolk style latch above. Lock is excellent, can be locked with key from both sides.

Just about to give this one a lick of Sadolin, around 1.4m. Simple wooden frame with some feather edge nailed on, not too heavy, doesn't swell or stick, combination lock instead of a yale.

Get a table bigger than the doorhole
Take the legs off.
Cut down to doorhole size.
Put in hinges.
Drill hole for lock.
Put lock in lock hole.
Put door in doorhole.
Screw hinges to side of doorhole.
