Just trying to get a sense check on some work we have had priced for routing copper piping (circa 2m) to 2 new radiators.

I have great difficulty getting quotes out of any other plumbers, so as usual left with one option that appears to be high. I’ve come to the conclusion that pistonheads is my sense check!

Inlet and outlet copper piping to 2 radiators. Circa 2m to each, with 2 90 degree bends. Radiators are installed with valves in situ.

Plumber wants £400 + materials + vat. At £100 per hour, is this really a 4 hour job? All in I reckon it will be circa £650 to install 8m of copper piping to rads.

I’ve tried other plumbers but struggling to get anyone to answer phone / return messages / provide a quote.

You’ve done your sense check, no one else is interested!

It could very easily take 4, or more hours

Does the system need draining etc…

I always take the following view on jobs that need doing around the house. Can I do it for less? Do I have all the tools? Will it work when I’ve done it? Can I earn more while being at work doing my own stuff?
If you think it’s expensive and can do it yourself for less, crack on. If not, that’s the price it is.

Sounds about right, the plumbers I know work on around £500 a day. It seems they’ve all took advantage of the shortage of tradesmen and the overflow of work. Kids nowadays are encouraged to go to uni… If I had my time again I’d of become a plumber laugh
