Problem with my driveway
Discussion
This is quite a long story, so I will try to shorten it down a bit, so here goes:
My dad works for a company which does resin bonded aggregate, and he managed to pull some favours and get some for my drive. He spoke to one of their contractors on what I needed to do ground work wise, which has now turned out to be bad information.
So now my drive is an 8" hole which I was told to fill 6" with type 1 ready for the resin bound to come, but I have now been told I really should be putting down the hardcore, then either 2" of concrete or tarmac and then the resin bound can go on top of that.
The problem is I really don't have the money to give someone an extra £600 to lay tarmac or concrete but my drive is already a big hole that I can't park on. I wish I hadn't started now
I am now not sure what to do, I don't really want to load up my credit card and its a total PITA that this has come up after I have already started and put so much effort in. I don't know whether to just put the hardcore down as planned and then gravel over the top.
What would you guys do? The drive is for parking but I also wanted it done so I can work in a bit more comfort under the cars, so I am a bit reluctant on loose gravel

I usually lay resin bound aggregate on asphalt (tarmac isn't used much these days except on the hard shoulder of motorways) and 50 mm of concrete would break up as soon as you parked on it ... so I'm afraid you've been badly advised anyway
This stuff is good http://www.kbiuk.co.uk/ and it's permeable too, but it's different to what you are proposing in that it can be laid directly on a type 1 material

Thanks for that, looks like interesting stuff. I will give them a call tomorrow.
What would you recommend as the best way forward for my 8" hole of a driveway then? Would you normally expect it to be deeper?
Such a frustrating situation and every website I go on seems to give conflicting information

Depends on the subgrade ... if you've got a good CBR 150 mm type 1 and 50 mm Flexi-Pave should be adequate.Put a geotextile layer in under the type 1

Sorry for the double post.Put a geotextile layer in under the type 1
Just googled this material and it looks interesting, I have a 4km cycle path project coming up soon and this stuff maybe perfect.
What is the cost of this stuff per m3?

All sorted, getting the resin bound rubber / gravel mix put down which can go straight on top of the type 1.
Looks great from the samples I have got and should be done in a couple of weeks or so. Will update with pics
