I have a detached house which gets pretty cold in the winter.

One big problem is a large external hall wall that forms one side of the staircase.

Exterior insulation isn't really an option unfortunately. A friend has suggested that it's possible to buy plasterboard with an AeroGel backing which provides excellent insulation without taking up too much width (the staircase is already on the narrow side).

I've searched online but I can only seem to find rolls of insulation with some form of Aerogel on the back. It doesn't look like they'll provide a hardwearing surface.

Has anyone any experience of these products?

Thanks

Thanks for those links.

Crazy prices but worth it for comfort.
All I need is a decent company to install the p/board.

I would go for a phenolic foam backed board over aerogel. !
Thanks for that.
My problem is that the stairwell is already narrow and I cant afford to lose much to the insulation.
I suppose that it might be better to widen the staircase but then it becomes a major job.
